Salem High School Fall Sports Calendars on sale today
SALEM -- Salem High School Fall Sports Calendars will be sold today at the football game. Cost is $10 each. The calendars are also available in room 165 at the high school from Amie Cochran; in the high school athletic office from Head Coach Sarah Hamilton; and at the Salem Computer Center, 409 E. Second St.
Emergency services appreciation night at Reilly
SALEM -- The Pride of Salem High School Marching Band will host "Emergency Services Appreciation Night" during today's East Palestine vs. Salem football game at Reilly Stadium. Police officers, firefighters and emergency medical service personnel from Salem and Perry Township have been invited to meet at the high school at 6 p.m. (if available) and march with the band to the stadium.
Participants will be recognized on the field for their dedicated and continuous community service during the band's pre-game and halftime performances and will be provided with both a complimentary game admission and food voucher redeemable for concessions at the band booster stand located at the north end of the stadium. Personnel unable to meet at the high school are welcome to arrive at the stadium prior to the pre-game performance.
War Bird Fun Fly planned Saturday
LISBON -- The public is invited to the War Bird Fun Fly at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Centaur R/C Club on County Home Road. Pilot registration starts at 9 a.m. Refreshments will be available from the Cook Shack crew. Pilot prizes include a new plane. Admission is free and there will be a 50/50 drawing. Open flying follows after 1 p.m.

Second Harvest to host Volunteer Appreciation Day
YOUNGSTOWN -- Second Harvest Food Bank will host a Volunteer Appreciation Day from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at 2805 Salt Spring Road. This "Everyday Heroes" themed picnic will honor the volunteers who give their time to help sort and re-box food for distribution, assist with programs such as BackPack and Mobile Pantry, and help with answering the phone and other clerical duties.
Last year, volunteers gave more than 14,000 hours to help feed hungry friends and neighbors in the Mahoning Valley. Approximately 100 volunteers are expected to attend.
"We simply could not carry out our mission of feeding those in need without the generosity and compassion of those who volunteer," said Mike Iberis, executive director. Food bank volunteers range from high school students to retirees who come in each week to help sort and re-box food for distribution from 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday. The food bank also opens for groups to volunteer from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesdays and 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays. Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley, a member of Feeding America, provides food to those in need in the tri-county area through 148 programs provided by hunger-relief organizations, which include church pantries, homeless shelters, soup kitchens, shelters for battered women and after-school programs. Leetonia Dairy Queen to host benefit car show
LEETONIA -- The Leetonia Dairy Queen will host a benefit car show from noon to 3:30 p.m. Sunday. Registration is from 10:30 a.m. to noon with a $5 entry fee and free dash plaques for the first 75 cars. The show will have multiple trophy classes. All proceeds will go to the Leetonia Bears to Bee Preschool. There also will be a DJ, Chinese auction and 50/50 drawing.
Banquet in Salem to feature roast beef
SALEM -- The Banquet in Salem will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Memorial Building, 785 E. State St. The meal will be sponsored by Bob and Linda Sebo. The menu offers roast beef, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, applesauce, fresh vegetables and fruit, and cupcakes.

Farms to Forest Dinner set at Greenisen Farm
SALEM -- In addition to the gourmet meal featuring local meats, local produce and local wine, the Columbiana County Farm Bureau's Farms to Forest Dinner set from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept 9 will feature a Chinese auction. The auction baskets will contain unique items such as a fire pit, a locally raised lamb, products from several local farms, salmon, a plane ride over the county, etc.
The dinner will be catered by the Spread Eagle Tavern of Hanoverton and served on the Greenisen Century Farm, 1904 Depot Road, Salem. Each of the five courses will be paired with a wine from The Vineyard at Pine Lake. Proceeds from the evening will benefit the Beaver Creek Wildlife Education Center. Seating is limited.
