CANFIELD--The Outstanding Youth Award was established to provide an opportunity to recognize youth who are involved in one or more of the seven Junior Fair Youth Organizations - Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Future Farmers of America, Camp Fire USA, Farm Bureau, Grange and 4-H and go above and beyond to serve their organization, Junior Fair - and the community. Of those selected, two youth are selected as the overall outstanding youth - one boy and one girl. The final selection will be announced as the finale on Youth Day at 2 p.m. Aug. 31 on the Concourse Stage.
--Taylor Casanta
Taylor is the daughter of Dave and Jen Casanta and is a sophomore at Columbiana High School. She has represented Mahoning County 4-H with her horse at the Ohio State Fair for over six years. She is a member of the Mahoning County Junior Fair Board, the Interscholastic Equestrian Association and the Rock Solid Riders 4-H Club. Taylor plans to attend college and continue her involvement in the 4-H and the Junior Fair in the future.
--Samantha Colonna-Noble
Samantha is the daughter of Melissa Colonna and is a junior at Springfield High School. She is a member of the Mahoning County Junior Fair Board and has held several offices in her following 4-H clubs: Canfield Buckeyes, Youngstown Tailwaggers, LLucky Llamas and Mill Creek My-T-Mites. She has taken photography, and loves showing her llamas and dogs at the Canfield Fair. Her dream is to become a marine biologist or to work in an agricultural related field.
--Jacob Corll
Jacob is the son of Paul and Joann Corll of Berlin Center and is a junior at Western Reserve High School. He is an active member of Boy Scouts, 4-H and Grange, representing Grange on Outstanding Youth. He has attend the Ohio State Grange Convention, served as a delegate to the National Grange Convention and is also a representative to the Ohio State Grange Youth Committee. Jacob is also a Senior Patrol Leader in Boy Scout Troopand is a member of the Capriculturists 4-H Club. He has shown goats, beef, feeders, pigs and rabbits in the 4-H Program and is also a member of the Mahoning County Junior Fair Board. He plans to attend college to pursue a career in architecture, as well as own a small goat farm.
--Nicole D'Angelo
Nicole is the daughter of Debbie and Greg D'Angelo and is a junior at Springfield Local High School. Nicole is an eight-year member of Country Kids and Kritter's 4-H Club for which she has assisted with booth decorating and the gazebo upkeep and participated in Small Projects. Nicole has held several offices in her 4-H club and is a member of the high school band and basketball. She takes rabbits to the fair is an active member on Junior Fair Board. After graduating from high school Nicole plans to pursue her dream in becoming a veterinarian.
--Cheyenne Heffner
Cheyenne is the daughter of James and Delilah Heffner and is a sophomore at Springfield Local High School. She has been involved in 4-H for seven years and is a member of Springfield Booster Boys 4-H Club for which she serves as vice president. Cheyenne has been selected for the 2017 4-H Royal Court, shows beef feeders and hogs at the fair and has taken hogs to state fair. She also does art and insect still projects. She was a 2016 representative as an Ohio State 4-H Ambassador and was on the 2017 State 4-H Leadership Council. She is also involved in Junior Leaders, Junior Fair Board, Carteens, flagline and track and field. Cheyenne intends to pursue a degree in Animal Genetics and attend Ohio State ATI in Wooster.
--Dakota Herron
Dakota is the son of Jason and Lorie Gfeller and Tim and Emily Herron. He is a junior at Western Reserve High School and is representing Boy Scouts. He is a Senior Patrol Leader, has earned the Brotherhood in Order of the Arrow, and has earned his Eagle Scout. Dakota is also a member of Goshen Good Growers and the Mahoning Count Junior Fair Board. He is active in the Berlin Center United Methodist Church Youth and Western Reserve Band. Dakota would like to pursue a career in Auto Mechanics and own a small farm.
--Thomas Kemp
Thomas is the son of Will and Kori Wagner and is a junior at West Branch High School. Thomas has been involved in FFA for two years and is a member of the Village Varieties 4-H club for which he has served in several office positions. Thomas has been involved in West Branch Enviro Team, Soil Judging Team and Livestock Judging Team. He plans to start a small feed lot and livestock operation in aspiring to one day owning his own farm where FFA and AG teachers can bring youth to learn more about farming.
--Sydney Lewis
Sydney is the daughter of Tom and Joleen Lewis and is a senior from Canfield High School. Sydney is a member of the Blue Ribbon Wranglers and Country Kids and Kritters 4-H clubs. She enjoys showing her rabbits and horses in 4-H and is a member of the Mahoning County Junior Fair Board. In high school she was involved in National Honor Society and cheerleading and served as a class officer. She will be attending Youngstown State University to study pre-med and hopes to become a pediatrician.
--Tyler Moff
Tyler is the son of Duane and Kim Moff and is a senior at Western Reserve High School. Tyler has been involved in 4-H for nine years and shows goats and rabbits. He is currently the vice president of the Capriculturists and is an active member of Junior Fair Board, very involved in the Junior Fair Program. Tyler was involved in Boy Scouts for six years and has volunteered with various Junior Fair Educational Programs and at the Mill Creek MetroParks. He has been selected for the 2017 4-H Royal Court. Tyler is a graduate of Western Reserve High School and was salutatorian of his class. He was selected as an Emerging Leader at the University of Akron and plans to attend the University of Akron to pursue a career in Computer Engineering.
--James Moore
James is the son of James Moore and Mary Meloga of Canfield. He is a Boy Scout representative on Outstanding Youth and has earned his Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, Star and Life Awards. He was also elected into the Order of the Arrow. In 4-H, he has been involved in Small Projects as well as showing Market Animals as a member of the Springfield Booster Boys and is a member of the Mahoning County Junior Fair Board. James is a Junior at South Range High School. In the future, he would like to earn his Eagle Scout and to attend college to pursue a career in engineering.
--Joshua Phillips
Joshua is the son of Paul and Kristin Phillips and is a senior home schooled student. Joshua is a member of the Youngstown Tailwaggers and has held several offices in his 4-H club, currently as president. He is a member of the Mahoning County Junior Fair Board. Joshua plans to attend Pensacola Christian College in Pensacola, Fla., to study Criminal Law or Political Science.
--Kearstin Rummel
Kearstin is the daughter of Aaron and Kristi Rummell and is a junior at West Branch High School. Kearstin represents FFA and has earned her FFA Green Hand Award and Equine Award. She has also learned about wood working, farming and animal care through FFA. Kearstin is in Village Varieties 4-H club and serves as the vice president. She shows rabbits, ducks, chickens and horses at the fair. She was also part of the Junior Saddle Horse Committee and Drill Team. After graduating high school, Kearstin plans to attend The Ohio State University to pursue her dreams in becoming a veterinarian.
--Brittany Siembieda
Brittany is the daughter of John and Mindy Siembieda and is a senior at South Range High School. Brittany is member of Millcreek My-T-Mites 4-H Club for which she is the president and has been a member of the Capriculturists. She has shown rabbits, chickens and goats at the fair and has taken Veterinary Science, Art and many shooting sports projects. Brittany is an active member of the Junior Fair Board. She plans to pursue a degree in education and attend Youngstown State University.
--Kristyn Svetlak
Kristyn is the daughter of Rick and Lisa Svetlak and is a freshman at Kent State University studying Architectural Design. She is a member of Country Kids and Kritters 4-H Club for which she serves as president and is an active member of Junior Fair Board for which she serves as the vice president and the chair for Youth Day. She shows rabbits at the fair and has taken Scrapbooking, Creative Writing and Cake Decorating. She is also a member of the 2017 4-H Royal Court.
