SALEM -- The public is invited to a garage sale from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 9 at the First Baptist Church, 1290 E. State St. The rain date is Sept. 23. DUNGANNON -- A book commemorating the 200th parish anniversary of St. Philip Neri Church is being published and presales for the book have begun. "The History of St. Philip Neri Church in Dungannon, Ohio 1817-2017" is about the birthplace of Catholicism in Ohio. It is a thoroughly researched book that is full of photos and information. Cost is $35. The books will be here in time for a book signing from 2 to 7 p.m. Oct. 7 at the church. More details will follow. The price will rise to $40 after presale ends. 4SALEM -- As they have for over 25 years, the Salem United Methodist Women will soon be making meat loaves and ham loaves, for the public. Orders must be placed by calling the church office at 330-337-9531 before Sept. 11. The baked loaves may be picked up in the church fellowship hall at 344 S. Broadway Ave. (south entrance) from 2 to 3 p.m. Sept. 16 or 10 a.m. to noon Sept. 17. Cost is $7 for the 1-pound loaf or $14 for the 2-pound loaf. The proceeds will be used to further the UMW mission projects.
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Diocese of Youngstown is calling upon Catholics and others of good will to support the relief efforts of Catholic Charities USA, the official domestic relief agency of the U. S. Catholic Church, in addressing the needs of people impacted by Hurricane Harvey and its aftermath.
Hurricane Harvey brought widespread flooding and damage throughout the Galveston/Houston area this past weekend, and continues to devastate many surrounding communities with unprecedented amounts of rain. Donations will help to provide short-term and long-term recovery services to those affected as they begin the process of rebuilding their lives. Local donations can be sent to Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund, Office of Social Action, Catholic Diocese of Youngstown, 144 W. Wood St., Youngstown, Ohio 44503. Gifts can also be made online at ccdoy.org. Click on the "Hurricane Harvey" link on the homepage.
All funds collected locally will be forwarded to Catholic Charities USA to directly benefit individuals and families impacted by Hurricane Harvey.
