Canfield Fair Outstanding Youth to be named Thursday
The Outstanding Youth Award was established to provide an opportunity to recognize youth who are involved in one or more of the seven Junior Fair Youth Organizations – Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Future Farmers of America, Camp Fire USA, Farm Bureau, Grange and 4-H – and go above and beyond to serve their organization, Junior Fair and the community. Of those selected, two youth are selected to as the overall outstanding youth – one boy and one girl.
Sydney Lewis is the daughter of Tom and Joleen Lewis and is a senior from Canfield High School. Sydney is a member of the Blue Ribbon Wranglers 4-H Club and Country Kids and Kritters 4-H Club. She enjoys showing her rabbits and horses in 4-H. She is also a member of the Mahoning County Junior Fair Board. She was involved in National Honor Society, as a Canfield High School cheerleader, and was a class officer at Canfield High School. She was a recipient of the Pop Shop Assistance Award in the spring of 2018. She will be attending Youngstown State University to study pre-med and hopes to become a pediatrician.
Karlee Banks is the daughter of Ron and Kelly Banks from North Jackson. Karlee is a senior from Western Reserve High School. Karlee is a member of the Jackson Milton Livestock 4-H Club. She enjoys showing her market animals 4-H. She is also a member of the Mahoning County Junior Fair Board. She was involved in National Honor Society, as Western Reserve High School cheerleader, and was a class officer in the student council. She has been a volunteer for the Mill Creek MetroParks. She plans to attend Ohio State Agriculture Technical Institute to study livestock.
Olivia is the daughter of Robin and Stephen Reph of Berlin Center. Olivia attends Western Reserve High School. She is active in the Western Reserve Band and Choir. She is a member of Western Reserve Rangers 4-H Club. Olivia has taken a variety of projects in her 4-H club including Sewing, Nutrition, Market Livestock, Rabbits and Poultry. She has represented Mahoning County several years at the Ohio State Fair. She is currently a member of the Mahoning County Junior Fair Board and served as a Camp Counselor and on the Food & Fashion Board. Olivia is very active in her community. Olivia plans to pursue a career in nursing.
James is the son of James Moore and Mary Meloga of Canfield. He is a Boy Scout Representative on Outstanding Youth. James has earned his Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, Star and Life Awards. He was elected into the Order of the Arrow and is currently working on his Eagle Scout Award. In 4-H, he has been involved in Small Projects as well as showing Market Animals as a member of the Springfield Booster Boys. He is a member of the Mahoning County Junior Fair Board. James is a senior at South Range High School. In the future, he would like to earn his Eagle Scout and to attend college to pursue a career in engineering.
Nicole is the daughter of Debbie and Greg D’Angelo and is a junior at Springfield Local High School. Nicole is a nine-year member of Country Kids and Kritter’s 4-H club and Mahoning County Llama Club where she has assisted with booth decorating and the gazebo upkeep and participated in Small Projects. Nicole has held several offices in her 4-H club. She is a member of the high school band and basketball. She takes rabbits to the fair is an active member on Junior Fair Board. After graduating from high school Nicole plans to pursue her dream of becoming successful after attending college.
Callia Barwick is the daughter of Madonna Barwick of Canfield. Callia is in the 11th grade at Canfield High School. She is a member of the Student Council, Canfield High School Drama Club and a cheerleader. She is a member of the Steel Valley K-9 4-H Dog Club. She was a member of the 4-H Royal Court in 2017. Callia is currently a member of the Mahoning County Junior Fair Board. She has traveled to the Ohio State Fair to represent Mahoning County in various projects. Callia plans to attend college and work to improve the equine industry.
Emma Reph is the daughter of Robin and Stephen Reph from Berlin Center. She is a sophomore at Western Reserve High School. She is a member of the Western Reserve Rangers 4-H Club. She has participated in a variety of projects and has represented Mahoning County at the Ohio State Fair. Emma is also a member of the Mahoning County Junior Fair Board. Emma serves on the Mahoning County Food and Fashion Board and as a Camp Counselor for 4-H Camp. Emma hopes to attend college to pursue a career in the medical or legal field.
–Molly St. John
Molly St. John goes to West Branch High school and will graduate next year in 2019. She is the daughter of Ann and Scott St. John. Molly represents Future Farmers of America on Outstanding Youth. Her FFA advisor is Mrs. Zeisler. This is Molly’s second year holding the officer position of reporter in her FFA chapter. Molly is a member of the Capriculturalist Mahoning County Goat Club. She has been reporter for three years and is currently secretary for the Capriculturalists. Every year she brings goats to compete in carting and packing at the Canfield Fair and has won may high-place awards with them. Molly is planing on pursuing a general animal science degree in college.
Thomas is the son of Will and Kori Wagner and is a senior at West Branch High School. Thomas has been involved in FFA for three years and is a member of the Village Varieties 4-H club where he has served in several office positions. Thomas has been involved in West Branch Enviro Team, Soil Judging Team and Livestock Judging Team. He is also serving as the 2017 Mahoning County Junior Fair Sheep Ambassador and the Columbiana-Mahoning- Trumbull Beef Breeding Ambassador. Thomas plans to start a small feed lot and livestock operation in aspiring to one day owning his own farm where FFA and AG teachers can bring youth to learn more about farming.
Brittany is the daughter of John and Mindy Siembieda and is a freshman at Kent State University. Brittany is member of Millcreek My-T-Mites 4-H Club where she is the president and has been a member of the Capriculturists. She has shown rabbits, chickens and goats at the fair and has taken Veterinary Science, Art and many shooting sports projects. Brittany is an active member of the Mahoning County Junior Fair Board. She plans to pursue a degree in education.
Cheyenne is the daughter of James and Delilah Heffner and is a sophomore at Springfield Local High School. She has been involved in 4-H for eight years is a member of Springfield Booster Boys 4-H club where she serves as vice president. Cheyenne has been selected for the 2017 4-H Royal Court. Cheyenne shows beef feeders and hogs at the fair and has taken hogs to state fair. She also does art and insect still projects. She was a 2016 representative as an Ohio State 4-H Ambassador and was on the 2017 State 4-H Leadership Council. She is also involved in Junior Leaders, Junior Fair Board, Carteens, Flagline and Track and Field. Cheyenne intends to pursue a degree in Animal Genetics and attend Ohio State ATI in Wooster.
Jacob is the son of Paul and Joann Corll of Berlin Center. Jacob is a junior at Western Reserve High School. He is an active member of Boy Scouts, 4-H and Grange. Jacob is representing Grange on Outstanding Youth. He has attend the Ohio State Grange Convention, served as a delegate to the National Grange Convention and is also a representative to the Ohio State Grange Youth Committee. Jacob is a Senior Patrol Leader in his Boy Scout Troop. He is a member of the Capriculturists 4-H Club. He has shown goats, beef, feeders, pigs and rabbits in the 4-H Program. He is also a member of the Mahoning County Junior Fair Board. He plans to attend college to pursue a career in architecture, as well as own a small goat farm.
William is the son of Robin and Stephen Reph from Berlin Center. William is a senior at Western Reserve High School. He is a member of the Mahoning County Junior Fair Board. He has taken a variety of small projects as well as a variety of livestock projects. William has been selected to represent Mahoning County at the Ohio State Fair on various occasions. William is a member of the Western Reserve High School Honor Society and the High School Band. William plans to attend college and plan a career in finance.
Samantha is the daughter of Sharon Jarvis of Berlin Center. She is a sophomore in the Ohio Virtual Academy. Samantha is the Girl Scout Representative to Outstanding Youth. She has been active in Girl Scouts for 10 years. Samantha has earned her bronze and silver awards. She has volunteered at the Pop Shop and the Boy Scout Fish Fry. Samantha looks forward to working on her Gold Award in the years to come.
2017 MAHONING COUNTY JUNIOR FAIR OUTSTANDING YOUTH
Tyler Moff is the son of Duane and Kim Moff. Tyler has been involved in 4-H for 10 years and shows goats and rabbits. He is currently a member of the Capriculturists. Tyler is an active member of Junior Fair Board and is very involved in the Junior Fair Program. Tyler was involved in Boy Scouts for six years. He has volunteered with various Junior Fair Educational Programs and at the Mill Creek MetroParks. He was selected for the 2017 4-H Royal Court. Tyler is a graduate of Western Reserve High School and was salutatorian of his class. He was selected as an Emerging Leader at the University of Akron and plans to attend the University of Akron to pursue a career in Computer Engineering.
Kristyn is the daughter of Rick and Lisa Svetlak and is a sophomore at Kent State University studying Architectural Design. She was a member of Country Kids and Kritters 4-H Club. She is an active member of Junior Fair Board where she assists on many projects. She showed rabbits at the fair and has taken Scrapbooking, Creative Writing and Cake Decorating. She was also a member of the 2017 4-H Royal Court.
