Salem Area Festival of Bands is Saturday
SALEM -- The 22nd Annual Salem Area Festival of Bands will be held Saturday at Reilly Stadium.
Featured will be the high schools bands of Salem, East Palestine, Sebring, United Local and West Branch.
Admission at the door will be $5. Ages 10 and under are free.
Sebring, Greenford libraries hold coupon swap
YOUNGSTOWN--Sebring and Greenford libraries hold a coupon swap for adults during hours of operation each open day. Participants can swap coupons they do not need with other participants.
Free clothing giveaway scheduled Saturday
SEBRING -- Acts 2 Ministries of the Sebring/West Branch area will hold a free clothing giveaway from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Acts 2 Clothes Closet located behind Pine Lake Christian Church, 636 Pine Lake Road. Clothing is available for men, women and children. There are no restrictions based on income or employment.
Donations of good, gently used clothing items are welcome for any season. Call 330-938-6689 about making clothing donations as a drop-off box is not available.
Cutting Edge Styling Salon sponsoring bus trip fundraiser
SALEM -- The Cutting Edge Styling Salon is sponsoring a fundraiser and has arranged for a bus trip on Sept. 18 to the Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh, Pa. Cost is $40 per person with $30 offered in free play. The bus leaves the Salem Walmart at 9 a.m. and returns at approximately 5 p.m. Proceeds will be given to the Multiple Sclerosis Super Walk and the West Point Lions Club. Mill Creek Metro Parks presenting Sunset at the Farm
YOUNGSTOWN -- Mill Creek MetroParks presents Sunset at the Farm to be held from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 22 at the MetroParks Farm, 7574 Columbiana-Canfield Road. This free event offers folk music while roasting marshmallows over the campfire, exploring the animal barns or entering a corn maze. Cider and homemade apple butter demonstrations are planned along with free samples, old-time games, and tractor-drawn wagon hay rides. Pony rides, face painting and refreshments will be available for a small fee.

Salem Library program will focus on WWII
SALEM -- A "Live from Anywhere" video conferencing program presented by the National World War II Museum in New Orleans, La., begins at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 27 in the Salem Public Library's Quaker Room.
The program, titled "Don't You Know There's a War Going on? The American Homefront in World War II," will begin with a brief background description of how the United States entered the war. The audience will learn about the challenges to the homefront from the perspective of making all the materials needed to win the war, dealing with food shortages and keeping Americans optimistic and focused on winning the war. Photos, posters, editorial cartoons, songs and speeches will be used to teach attendees about the triumphs and mistakes that were made at home during the war. Flowers, decorations need removed from cemeteries
SALEM -- All summer flowers and decorations must be removed before Oct. 1 at Grandview and Hope cemeteries.
Salem Farmers Market will be open Thursday
SALEM -- The Salem Farmers Market will be open from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the Masonic Temple parking lot, 788 E. State St. The market will be open rain or shine. In addition to fresh fruits and vegetables, a variety of homemade pies and desserts and other homemade items are available for purchase.
Vendors planning to participate include Spencer's Meats with frozen beef and pork, NewMe Pies with homemade pies, Cindy with Ring Weaving Jewelry, Arika Jean's Farm and Cottage with artisan jams and farm crafts, Raquel with produce, James Natural products with honey, produce, baked goods and more, and Acorn Alpaca Farm with alpaca goods.
Beaver Township firefighters hosting dinner fundraiser
BEAVER TWP. -- Beaver Township Fire and Rescue will hold a chicken dinner fundraiser from 4 to 8 p.m. Sept. 15 at the Beaver Township Fire Department, 601 W. South Range Road. There also will be a 50/50 and gun raffle.
The menu offers barbecued chicken, potatoes, green beans, applesauce, apple dumplings with ice cream and your choice of beverage. Tickets are $10 in advance at the fire department and $12 at the door on Sept. 15. Carryouts will be available. The chicken will be cooked by the Old Towne Country Grill for the second year in a row. All proceeds will go to the Beaver Township Firemen's Association.
