Salem High School '69 to hold fundraisers
SALEM -- The Salem High School Class of 1969 Reunion Committee members have announced that fundraisers are being organized to add to class member donations for the group's 50-year gift to the Salem High School Alumni Association. The first fundraiser will be at the Farmers Market from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. Oct. 4 at the municipal lot on East Pershing Street across from Boneshakers restaurant.

Seven and One Club kicks off fall season
SALEM -- Members of the Seven and One Club kicked off the fall season when they met on Wednesday evening at the home of Mrs. Herb Bott on Depot Road. Two guests attended, Mrs. Keith Keslar and Tracy Dearth. Cards were played following the luncheon. Prizes were won by Mrs. Jack Bruderly, first; Mrs. John Hively second; and Ms. Dearth, low. During dessert pictures of the group's summer picnic on July 28 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Mincks were viewed. The next meeting begins at 7 p.m. Oct. 17 at the home of Mrs. Larry Dearth.
Benefit dinner to help motorcycle crash victim
LEETONIA -- The Bryce Turney benefit dinner will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. Oct. 7 at the Leetonia Sportsman Club, 311E. High St. Turney was injured in a motorcycle accident and lifeflighted from the scene on Sept. 4. Proceeds from the benefit will benefit Turney who has a femur fracture along with multiple facial fractures which both required surgery.
Tickets are $10 each for ages 11 and older, $7 for ages 4 to 10 and free for 3 and under. The menu offers barbecued pulled pork sandwiches, chicken, potatoes, vegetables, salad, desserts and beverages. Advance tickets are available by contacting Laura Portwood at 513-319-0237.
There also will be a Chinese auction and 50/50 raffle. T-shirts may be ordered by contacting Portwood. Window decals will also be available.
Tickets will also be sold at $10 each for a chance to win a trip to Costa Rica for 10-12 people (a $5,500 value, air fare not included).
Deerfield dance slated for Monday canceled
DEERFIELD -- The Deerfield Historical Society's first Monday dance Monday has been canceled.
TOPS 777 honors summer's top weight loss
SALEM -- Carrie Toy was honored as the summer's best loser when members of TOPS 777 met on Sept. 26. Also recognized were Shirley Johns and Linda Gerace who shared summer KOPS status.
Weekly winners were Joann Sanor and Twila Shoaff, best losers; and Sara Fender, KOPS.
Monthly winners included Toy, best loser; Melissa Chaffin, runner up; Debbie Phillips, trooper award; Johns, KOPS and KOPS at goal or below for the month. Chaffin received a special award and a seven-week charm.
Brenda Adams offered the inspiration titled "Never Be Discouraged."
Linda Evanoff presented a program titled "The ABCs of Living Well."
Friendly Squares to host monthly square dance
NILES -- The Friendly Squares will host its monthly square dance from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Oct. 13 at the Senior Citizens Opportunity for Personal Endeavor (SCOPE) Center, 14 E. State St., Niles. Rex Parker will call the squares and Frankie Hammond will cue the line dances. The theme for the dance is "Halloween." Costumes are encouraged but not required. Afternoon R-Weigh recognizes weekly weight loss
SALEM -- Members of R-Weigh afternoon group met on Sept. 23 at the First Friends Church on Jennings Avenue. Jo Anne Bogdan called the meeting to order. Everyone joined in saying the R-Weigh prayer and "My Darling Clementine." Sandy McGarr read the minutes from last meeting and Sylvia Eller read the treasurer's report.
Calorie chart winners were Evelyn Pete and McGarr. The goal winners were Ann Foust and Jo Carol Gray. The can do award goalies were Bogdan and Eller.
Five regular members and nine goalies for a total of 14 recorded a 3 pound loss and a 1 1/2 pound gain. Good loser was Rhonda Brown. Evelyn Pete was the runner up. The year to date loss is 203 with a gain of 154 pounds.
