Local military organization installs officers, board of directors

VIENNA -- Officers and board of directors for the Mahoning and Shenango Valleys Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America (MSVC-MOAA) were recently installed at a luncheon business meeting at the Consolidated Activities Center of the Youngstown Air Reserve Station in Vienna. The new board was installed by Colonel Dick Calta, the outgoing president of the Ohio MOAA Council of Chapters. Joining the current board for the first time are: former Captain Ralph DeLucia, Commander David DiTallo and Lieutenant Colonel Larry Scheetz. Janet Oglesby and Lieutenant Colonel Roderick Hosler presented the membership with annual reports and summarized the activities and accomplishments of the chapter for 2018.

The MSVC-MOAA received its second consecutive Five-Star Level of Excellence Award from the National Headquarters in Arlington, Va., which recognizes the very best of over 400 chapters in the country. Oglesby was awarded the highest Achievement Award as editor of the chapter newsletter as well as Bruce Bille for the chapter's website.

Guest speaker for the luncheon was Harold Ryther, a local real estate broker and certified property manager. He is the founder of the USS Oklahoma Remains Preservation Project which seeks to identify and reunite the remains of 388 sailors and marines who were entombed in the battleship when it was sunk in Pearl Harbour at the start of World War II.

The MSVC-MOAA also met at 1 p.m. Jan. 25 at the Consolidated Activities Center. The guest speaker was Lieutenant Colonel John Caparanis, a local sports announcer. For more information visit msvc-moaa.org.
