Salem Historical Society to meet
SALEM -- The Salem Historical Society monthly meeting will be held at 7 p.m. May 14 in the Dale Shaffer Library meeting room, 239 S. Lundy Ave. The program presentation will be by award-winning crime write Jane Ann Turzillo, who will feature her book "Wicked Women of Ohio" following a short business meeting.
KOA Care Camps Big Weekend set
SALEM --The Salem/Lisbon KOA Holiday will be offering camping on May 11 for $20 as part of Kampgrounds of America's 16th annual KOA Care Camps Big Weekend to benefit KOA Care Camps for children with cancer.
Campers who stay as paying guests on May 10 will receive a night of camping on May 11 for just $20. The entire $20 fee will benefit KOA Care Camps for children battling cancer.
The KOA Care Camps Big Weekend event is the official start to the 2019 summer camping season and is being offered at participating KOAs throughout North America. It is also the major fundraiser for KOA Care Camps for children with cancer, the official charity of Kampgrounds of America and the KOA Owners Association.
Donations raised during the May 10 and 11 weekend will all go to benefit KOA Care Camps. This network of 130 specialized, medically equipped summer camps throughout North America allow children batting cancer to enjoy a true summer camp experience at no charge to their families.

Bus trip to NYC planned for June
SALEM-- Salem High School Choir Director Attila Samu is organizing a summer bus trip to New York City for Saturday, June 15. A 56-seat charter bus will leave at 11 p.m. Friday, June 14 from the back of Salem High School, arriving in New York on Saturday morning.
Travelers will have the entire day to explore the city at their leisure. The bus will pick up passengers at 9 p.m., Saturday evening, for the return trip back to Salem. Seats are assigned to keep family and friends together.

Checks/money orders and cash will be accepted, but no credit cards.
Reservations will be accepted until May 14 on a first come, first serve basis. Students under 21 must be accompanied by an adult.
The cost is $95 per person. A $10 per person cancellation fee is also available (optional). Ask for details.
Library marks Children's Book Week
LISBON--Lepper Library will mark the 100th anniversary of Children's Book Week now through Saturday. There will be a special story time for children in grades kindergarten through second at 4 p.m. Thursday at the library during which the five Chidren's Choice Book Award Nominees will be read and voted on.
For those who cannot attend the story time, voting will be available at the library during the remainder of the month. Nominated books include those in grades Kindergarten through second, third and fourth, fifth and sixth and teen. For grades kindergartent through 12.
Steel Valley Ukers to meet May 11
LISBON--Lepper Library will host the Steel Valley Ukers, organized by Richard Wyant, from 1 to 3 p.m. May 11. They will conduct an introductory ukulele workshop for beginners of all ages. No experience necessary. Ukuleles will be provided to patrons without an instrument for the duration of the program. Call 330-424-3117 to register.
Stitches in Time program planned
SALEM-- Salem Public Library's Stitches in Time will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. May 15 in the Quaker Room. The program is held the third Wednesday every month for anyone who enjoys thread and yarn handwork such as knitting, cross stitching, crocheting and embroidery, just to name a few. It is open to the public and free of cost to attend. Those attending should bring a project to work on. Registration is not required. For information call the library at 330-332-0042.
ESC to sponsor day camp May 9-10
LISBON-- On May 9 and 10 approximately 90 elementary through adult aged students will participate in an annual day camp sponsored by the Columbiana County Educational Service Center. Students with disabilities will be treated to programs planned by their teachers and community members at Camp Frederick near Rogers. Learning information outside the classroom walls has become a favorite end-of-the-year program for all involved. Lessons about critters that live in our waterways, plant growth, archery, participation in physical outdoor activities, singing, cooking marshmallows over a fire, team building and arts and crafts are some of the fun activities participants will be able to enjoy.
Ostomy Support Group meeting set
SALEM-- Area residents who have an ostomy, as well as those who are preparing for ostomy placement, are invited to attend an Ostomy Support Group hosted by Salem Regional Medical Center (SRMC) from 6 to 7 p.m. May 13 in SRMC's Private Dining Room, located at the back of the cafeteria on the hospital's ground floor.
The Ostomy Support Group meets one Monday evening a month, and there is no cost to participate. Family members and caregivers are welcome to attend. Pre-registration for the meetings is requested. Drive-thru chicken dinner offered
NORTH LIMA--Calvary United Methodist Church, 12062 South Ave., will be host a monthly drive-thru chicken dinner from 3 to 6 p.m. or until sold out May 9. Dinners are $7 and include stuffed chicken breast, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans and a brownie. To reserve dinners call 330-549-2588.
