-- Jefrey Smith, 34, of East Third Street, was taken by KLG Ambulance to Salem Regional Medical Center for minor head injuries after laying down his motorcycle to avoid striking another vehicle when the motorcycle experienced a mechanical issue at 12:20 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of Highland and Third. He said his motorcycle wouldn't come to a stop when coming to the four-way intersection.
-- A caller at 12:16 p.m. Sunday reported that two males walked into Sparkle Market, 423 S. Lundy Ave., took multiple items, then left without paying for them. The incident is under investigation.
-- Police assisted the Ohio State Highway Patrol at 3:59 a.m. Sunday at the station with a female in custody for operating a vehicle under the influence. The female provided a breath sample.
-- A man in the 100 block of Ohio Avenue called at 2:58 a.m. Sunday after receiving a call from a female in the 200 block saying a male was knocking on her back door. The male was at the corner of Ohio Avenue and East State Street and she did not want him on her property. An officer saw the male and was familiar with him and the female having problems recently. He said he was just out for a walk and did not knock on her door. He was told to go home and not to enter her property.
-- Loud persons were reported in an apartment complex in the 1200 block of Southeast Boulevard at 1:42 a.m. Sunday, slamming doors and making unreasonable loud noises. Officers made contact with the people at the residence who said they had an argument and the male was about to leave for the night. They were told about the complaint.
-- A possible fight was reported at 12:41 a.m. Sunday in the 100 block of Hawley Avenue where the caller could hear multiple people fighting inside a residence. Police made contact with a female inside the residence who said there was no issue. She was playing music loudly.
-- Mathew Bays, 29, of 421 Sharp Ave., was charged with domestic violence after police were called to his residence at 11:65 p.m. Saturday for a domestic dispute. A female who also resides there said they had an argument when he allegedly came home intoxicated, grabbed her by the chin and neck area and the shoulder and chest area, pushed her onto the couch and struck her once in the back of the head, witnessed by a child. They have two children together. The report said she had a minor injury to her chest area. After his arrest, Bays was taken to the Columbiana County jail.
-- A domestic dispute was reported at 11:08 p.m. Saturday in a parking lot at East Third Street and Vine Avenue where a caller reported a male and female in a van having a dispute. Officers located the van but no people, then made entry into the apartment building where the male and female were found. Both said there was no verbal or physical altercation. They had just arrived home. No injuries were seen.
-- Police were called at 10:58 p.m. Saturday to the Salem Regional Medical Center parking lot on East State Street for a report of a man sitting in a Dodge van with temporary plates on it. The caller said the man possibly had an active warrant out for his arrest. Contact was made with the man, who was identified and had no warrants.
-- A suspicious vehicle was reported at 10:23 p.m. Saturday at Franklin Avenue and Summit Street where dispatch was advised of a man operating a lawn tractor on the road that had almost been struck by a vehicle. Officers located the man on the tractor at South Union Avenue and Franklin and told him about the complaint.
-- An officer on patrol at 10:05 p.m. Saturday saw a male and female in a pavilion at Centennial Park near the playground after park hours. Contact was made with both people who were identified and then told of the new park closing time of 10 p.m. and sent on their way.
-- A woman in the 200 block of West Ninth Street reported at 9:56 p.m. Saturday that a suspicious male was knocking on her door. He had asked her for a cigarette earlier while she was standing outside. After she went in the house, the same male knocked at the door and asked for a ride. She told him no and he left south on North Howard Avenue. Officers located the male on West Fifth Street near North Ellsworth Avenue and he denied knocking on the door and advised he was visiting a friend next to the woman's house. He was told not to go back to her house or knock on anyone else's door.
-- Police responded to the 300 block of East Fifth Street at 7:28 p.m. Saturday for a verbal dispute and unwanted person. A man said his ex-girlfriend stopped over and then started yelling at him and left before police arrived. She pushed him away but no physical abuse had taken place on either party. He requested officers ask her not to return to his property. Officers advised they "would not play messenger for the relationship." They also advised if the two can't be civil with each other for the night, then they shouldn't make any contact.
-- Bobbisue Averill, 37, of Campbell, was cited for driving under suspension after a traffic stop at 5:46 p.m. Saturday in the 2400 block of East State Street. With no licensed driver available, the vehicle had to be towed. The female and her son were given a ride to the station to await a ride home.
-- Steven Slagle, 27, of East Liverpool, was cited for failure to reinstate after a traffic stop at 5:08 p.m. Saturday on Brooklyn Avenue at East Third Street. The occupants were removed from the vehicle and K-9 Simon was deployed, positively indicating on the vehicle. The vehicle was searched and only a small amount of marijuana residue was recovered. A licensed driver was able to respond to drive the vehicle.
-- Police were called at 3:49 p.m. Saturday to the 1200 block of Southeast Boulevard for a medical. First responders used oxygen and calmed the person down and EMT Ambulance arrived. The man signed off on a refusal.
-- A woman on Vine Avenue at 3:44 p.m. Saturday reported a case of menacing in the 600 block. An officer spoke to the other person and explained the possible criminal charges for his previous behavior and if the behavior continues. The victim declined to pursue charges.
-- A reckless operator was reported on West State Street at Georgetown Road at 3:09 p.m. Saturday. Police responded and saw a red truck as described traveled east coming over the bridge. A local business delivery vehicle was behind the truck and the officer saw brakes being applied. During a traffic stop on North Howard Avenue, the operator of the truck said he was tired of people riding up on the rear of his vehicle and he couldn't see the front of their vehicle. After a short discussion, an officer told him no one wanted him or anyone else to get hurt. He said he was a safe driver and understood.
-- A clerk at Circle K East, 1125 E. State St., reported at 2:50 p.m. Saturday that two witnesses saw a male come into the store, grab a lighter and run back outside into a maroon vehicle with a passenger. A short time later, the witnesses called and said the car was parked at Waterworth Memorial Park and the males were playing basketball. One of the males admitted what he had done. He was given the option of going back to the store and paying for the lighter, which he opted to do. The store was contacted and said that was fine. The male was also told he's not allowed back at the store.
-- A 911 hangup call was reported at 9:37 p.m. Friday in the 200 block of Butcher Road. No one was found in the area. An officer made contact with the caller and found nothing wrong. It was an accident.
-- Police responded at 4:31 p.m. Friday to the 1300 block of Ridgewood Drive to speak with a resident about a neighbor. Officers advised all parties to contact police if they feel any violation has occurred.
-- Carl Dawson, 92, of South 15th Street, Sebring, was cited for failure to yield after his eastbound vehicle failed to stop at the posted stop sign on West Second Street and struck a southbound vehicle driven by Shirley Penezich, 47, of Newgarden Road, as it traveled on North Howard Avenue at 2:51 p.m. Friday. Penezich refused medical treatment and two 17-year-old passengers were not injured. Dawson was taken by EMT Ambulance to Salem Regional Medical Center with non-incapacitating injuries. Both vehicles were towed from the scene.
-- An officer spoke with a person at the Salem Fire Department at 2:22 p.m. Friday and found they needed assistance with a pedal bike.
