SALEM
-- An officer at 2:37 a.m. Monday saw an illegally parked vehicle in front of Walmart and spoke with the driver, telling him not to park in front of the store.
-- Police were dispatched at 10:59 p.m. Sunday to a restaurant in the 500 block of East State Street for an assault report. The caller said his friend and an employee of the business had a physical altercation. The male had visible head injuries so fire department first responders and an ambulance were requested. The male said he's an ex-employee of the business and he and the other male began arguing and he was pushed and hit in the head with an alcohol bottle. The bottle was collected as evidence. He was transported to Salem Regional Medical Center . Officers responded to the residence of the other male involved who said he was approached by the ex-employee and an argument started. He advised the ex-employee came at him aggressively and he pushed him away and they began to wrestle around. He had no injuries. The person with the injury told police he didn't want to pursue the matter. The case is under further investigation.
-- Police were called at 9:46 p.m. Sunday to the 400 block of East State Street for a dispute. Contact was made with both people involved, who were intoxicated, and it was advised one of them was going in and out of traffic and yelling obscenities at passing cars. Both people denied any of the described actions. They were called a cab and taken home.
-- Ryan Smith, 40, of 560 N. Ellsworth Ave., was taken into custody on a warrant for felony drug possession after an officer on patrol at 7:58 p.m. Sunday saw him standing in front of his residence and knew about the active warrant. The warrant had been issued through the Columbiana County Sheriff's Office.
-- An officer at 7:48 p.m. Sunday saw an excessive amount of white smoke coming from the rear of a property in the 600 block of East Sixth Street, finding that a small amount of brush had been placed in a fire ring. The resident was advised of the open burning restrictions that prohibited the burning of brush and leaves and was told to only use dry seasoned firewood for cookouts. The brush had burned down and the smoke subsided.
-- Police responded to the intersection of North Lincoln Avenue and East Fifth Street for a paint spill reported at 7:08 p.m. Sunday, finding the substance along the side of the 700 block of Fifth. A witness advised a truck had come around the corner and a 5-gallon bucket fell off of the back as the truck turned, spilling some of its contents on the road. The occupant of the truck stopped and picked up what he could. The fire department responded and placed oil dry on the spill. The truck had left before police arrived, but an officer was able to locate the driver on East Fourth Street. The substance was a water-based acrylic floor sealer.
-- An officer was dispatched at 6:45 p.m. Sunday to the 700 block of Franklin Avenue for an accident report. A woman said she was at work at the Power House Cafe in the 500 block of South Broadway Avenue and parked her vehicle beside the business and turned it off, facing west on the north side of the building. When she left the building, a man told her the vehicle rolled out of the parking lot and traveled across South Broadway, striking a metal parking lot railing. She didn't know how it could have rolled out of the lot. Her vehicle sustained front-end damage. There was no damage to the railing.
-- An infant was reported left unattended in a parked vehicle at an apartment complex parking lot in the 1200 block of Southeast Boulevard at 6:39 p.m. Sunday, The vehicle left before police arrived, but a witness provided a license plate and saw someone return to be with the infant before leaving. An officer will follow up with the registered owner of the vehicle.
-- A woman contacted police at 3:37 p.m. Sunday with concerns for a family member that left the 100 block of South Broadway Avenue and was reportedly under the influence of alcohol and made a statement about harming himself. The person was located on Franklin near South Ellsworth Avenue. Due to his current condition and statements made to family members, fire department first responders and KLG were requested. He reluctantly decided to be transported to Salem Regional Medical Center by KLG.
-- A 911 hangup call was reported at 3:09 p.m. Sunday in the 600 block of South Lincoln Avenue, but no problems were found.
-- Amanda Raymond, 64, of North Union Avenue, was cited for failure to yield and Miguel Hernanadez, 19, of East Third Street, was cited for no operator's license after a two-vehicle accident at 1:55 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of North Lincoln Avenue and East Third Street. The report said Raymond's southbound vehicle on Lincoln stopped at the intersection and failed to yield before entering the intersection, striking the Hernanadez vehicle, which was eastbound on Third, had stopped, and was in the intersection.
-- A suspicious older orange car was reported at 11:59 a.m. Sunday in the 2300 block of East State Street, but was not found.
-- Police were called at 10:23 a.m. Sunday to the 1300 block of East State Street for a juvenile who appeared to be locked out of an apartment. The caller was concerned due to his young age. Contact was made with a parent who said her son went out to get the mail and the door locked behind him. She didn't hear him trying to get back in, but he had already made it inside before police arrived.
-- Corey Ozenghar, 39, of Hanoverton, was cited for assured clear distance ahead after his eastbound vehicle struck the rear of an eastbound vehicle driven by Jonna Dunn, 25, of Columbus, pushing her vehicle into another eastbound vehicle driven by Lesley Groubert, 51, of Boardman. Groubert and Dunn were stopped in traffic in the 1100 block at 12:05 p.m. Sept. 7 when Ozenghar told police he wasn't paying attention and struck the first car. No injuries were reported.
PERRY TOWNSHIP
-- A suspicious vehicle was reported at 9:19 p.m. Sunday at the Salem Saxon Club, state Route 9, but was gone before police arrived. Police checked the area and found nothing out of the ordinary.
-- Township police were asked at 4:08 p.m. Sunday to assist Salem units in locating a township resident who made remarks about suicide earlier in the day. There was no contact with him at his residence in the township and soon after, Salem units located him walking between South Ellsworth Avenue and Franklin Avenue. He was taken to Salem Regional Medical Center for evaluation.
-- Police responded to the 1600 block of North Lincoln Avenue for a report at 9:45 a.m. Sunday of possible narcotics paraphernalia found in a yard. An officer removed three used syringes with possible narcotic residue from the yard and properly disposed of the needles.
-- A caller in the 300 block of Plymouth Place reported vandalism to a mailbox at 7:52 p.m. Saturday. A neighbor advised who was responsible for the damage, which appeared to have been done by a vehicle. Police spoke to the person who advised they would replace the mailbox.
-- Police responded at 6:28 p.m. Saturday to state Route 344 near Chestnut Grove Road for a report of juveniles riding bicycles and a white truck possibly following them. Police were unable to find the juveniles or the truck.
-- A caller from Lisbon spoke with an officer at 3:12 p.m. Saturday regarding a civil issue, saying he wanted to get his belongings from a friend's residence on Stewart Road in the township and the friend was not wanting to give them back. He was told it's a civil matter.
-- A resident on West Pine Lake Road called at 2:40 p.m. Saturday regarding a shooting complaint. Police arrived and found that the people in question at another West Pine Lake Road property were shooting in a safe manner. Police attempted to make contact with the resident who called, but no one answered the door.
-- Police responded at 11:30 a.m. Saturday to the 1500 block of Benton Road for a reported burglary. The caller advised that on Friday between 7:15 a.m. and 8 p.m., someone broke into their residence and stole items. She believed the person who broke in was a disgruntled family member who was left out of the will of their dying mother. The incident is under investigation.
-- A westbound vehicle on state Route 344 struck a deer at 5:54 a.m. Saturday, causing moderate damage to the front end of the vehicle. The vehicle was driven from the scene.
-- Township police were requested at 1:41 p.m. Friday to look for a male who walked away from Salem Regional Medical Center and was seen in the area of Cunningham Road. Salem Police located the male in a field in the 700 block of Cunningham Road.
LEETONIA
-- An officer responded to a 200 block Main Street home at 11:35 a.m. Friday in reference to a domestic dispute and found that it was verbal only and no violence took place.
-- An officer responded to a 200 block Elm Street home at 1:37 p.m. Saturday where the resident reported finding damage to her back door upon returning home. The damage was determined to be caused by someone forcing entry, but nothing appeared to be missing from the home.
-- Elliott Paul Arden McMurray, 27, Court Street, Columbiana, was charged for disorderly conduct after officers responded to a domestic dispute at a 300 block Pearl Street home at 9:17 p.m. Saturday in which he allegedly pushed his girlfriend down the steps, agreed to leave with his parents then returned later despite being told to stay away.
-- An officer responded to a 300 block Walnut Street home at 1:17 p.m. Sunday to check on a resident who said he was considering ingesting rat poison due to some issues with his girlfriend but had changed his mind. He said he was going to watch football with his friends, so the officer left.
-- An officer responded to the trailhead park on East High Street at 10:30 a.m. Monday where someone over the weekend had unbolted and removed a picnic table top and attempted to removed the metal frame. Other tables had also been tampered with in an apparent attempt to steal them, and the portable toilet had been placed in the middle of the bike trail.
Lisbon
-- A caller reported a woman and her eight children were possibly walking up East Lincoln Way at 11:48 a.m. Sunday after leaving their residence on state Route 154. Police caught up with the woman, who said she was going to spend the night at her father's home and contact the Community Action Agency for assistance. The woman asked police at 3 p.m. to meet her at the Route 154 residence while she retrieved her belongings.
-- A caller reported at 1:29 p.m. Sunday there were items being loaded into a suspicious truck at the Akron Children's pediatric office under construction on North Market Street. The vehicle was a small white single cab Dodge pickup truck with a man and a dog inside, and he was seen taking some styrofoam pieces. Police checked the area but did not find the truck.
-- Renee Ebert called the police department at 1:56 p.m. Sunday because of a dispute with her child's father about where she was supposed to pick up their son. At 6 p.m., police accompanied her to the father's house on Harrison Street and the custody exchange occurred.
-- Christy Hoprich, West Washington Street, reported Sunday someone threw a large piece of asphalt at her Kia Sportage, leaving a hole in the rear hatch.
-- A sheriff's deputy on patrol saw two people at Carter Lumber at 12:30 a.m. Saturday, and they took off upon seeing the cruiser. Police searched the direction where they fled but did not see them.
-- Scott Krabill, East Lincoln Way, reported Saturday morning discovering the tires on his vehicles had been cut. His wife reported hearing a tapping on the window about 11 p.m. Friday but they did not think much of it at the time. There were also wipe marks on a rear window of the house but they are not sure when that happened.
-- William Henthorne, North Vine Street, reported a person he knows was circling his residence and shining his vehicle headlights at his home just before midnight Saturday. Henthorne said the person had also threatened to harm them and smash their windows. The vehicle was gone when police arrived and the Henthornes were told to call back should it return.
-- A clerk at the Valley View 2 reported at 4:19 a.m. Sunday there had been a vehicle parked in the lot for quit awhile. Police arrived and recognized the person as Kevin Criss, who said he had purchased some items from the convenience store but was having car problems. Criss was told this made it look suspicious and he agreed and left.
-- Police were called to an alleged domestic dispute on East Chestnut Street between Michael Ghoulish and Tabitha Boyd at 3:17 a.m. Sunday, with Boyd's sister claiming Boyd had been assaulted. There was no physical evidence of any assault, and Boyd was calm and relaxed. There was supposedly a protection order in place against Ghoulish, who agreed to leave.
-- Robert Hall, a construction worker painting the Sandy & Beaver Insurance building, reported hearing glass break at 1:11 a.m. after seeing some people walking by carrying a case of glass beer bottles. Police arrived and found a back window shattered at JWB Supply. There was no one inside, nor did it appear as if anything was missing. Police searched for the persons with beer but did not find them.
-- Harry Erhart, West Lincoln Way, learned Wednesday two transactions totaling $550 had been made from his bank account. He had let a neighbor borrow his bank card to get some cash to purchase some items for him but he had already received the items. He was advised to check with the bank first.
-- Scott Holloway, North Beaver Street, reported there was a woman outside yelling she needed an ambulance at 4 p.m. Wednesday. Police arrived to find an elderly woman and a worker from the nearby Allay Senior Care Facility at the intersection of Pendleton Street. The worker said the woman had walked away from the facility and had fallen down a couple times. A firefighter was on scene and an ambulance arrived shortly thereafter to transport the woman to a local hospital.
-- Police were called to West Washington Street about an unruly juvenile at 9:29 a.m. Friday. Police searched the area and later learned the youth returned home and had gone to school.
