POLICE REPORTS
PERRY TWP.
— Police responded to the 800 block of Stewart Road at 12:07 p.m. Wednesday for a report of a suspicious female knocking on the door of the caller’s residence. Police identified the 34-year-old woman of Jones Drive and found no warrants. She said she was looking for a friend’s residence and must have knocked at the wrong house. She was told to leave the property and warned if police have to make contact with her again, harassing residents, she will be arrested. The officer referenced a prior call in the area of Hearthside Drive and Old Coach Lane where a caller reported a suspicious person. The caller reported following the female to the 400 block of Old Coach Lane and watching as she walked into a wooded area before losing sight of her. Police could not locate her, but had her description.
— Police were called at 1:27 p.m. Tuesday to state Route 344 at Cunningham Road for a report of a possible property damage accident, but nothing was found.
SALEM
— Police were dispatched to the 500 block of South Broadway Avenue at 2:06 a.m. Thursday for a possible theft of medication and an irate person. A man who was yelling was told to calm down by police. He reported he was at the Powerhouse Cafe, went outside for a smoke and when he went back inside, his prescription pills were not in his coat where he left them. He said there was only one other person in the bar, but when police talked to him, he said he did not take the man’s medication and consented to a search. The man returned to the bar for his coat and found his pills in another pocket. He believed someone was going to take them and put them back in another pocket. No medication was missing and he left on foot with a sober friend.
— An officer on patrol in the area of East Third Street and Hawley at 1:26 a.m. Thursday saw two people walking who appeared to be in violation of curfew. The officer saw them attempt to conceal themselves on a porch in the 200 block of Rose Avenue once they saw the cruiser. The officer made contact, but there was a language barrier, so a translator responded and the officer learned both people were over the age of 18 and the male lived at the residence on Rose.
— Police assisted the Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office with the service of a warrant at 10:38 p.m. Wednesday in the 200 block of West Pershing Street. The person was placed in custody by deputies.
— A vehicle was reported parked improperly in the 1000 block of Cleveland Street at 10:15 p.m. Wednesday. The vehicle was relocated so it would no longer be an issue.
— Police were called at 9:33 p.m. Wednesday to the parking lot of a laundromat in the 900 block of West State Street for a domestic dispute. A woman said she and her ex-husband were exchanging property when an argument ensued and he threw a pair of his wet underwear at her, striking her in the back of the head. She admitted to slapping him in the face and said that he spit back in her face.. He left before police arrived. She was told her options and indicated she just wanted the incident documented.
— An unruly juvenile was reported at 8:40 p.m. Wednesday in the 1700 block of Quaker Lane where an officer met with a woman and her 15-year-old daughter and talked about their situation. The daughter was told she had to listen to the mother. Both were told to go to separate areas for the night.
— A woman in the 1000 block of North Lincoln Avenue reported at 7:32 p.m. Wednesday that she was concerned a man may try to violate the protection order she has against him in the next few days. She said she was provided information that he has ammunition in his possession and he isn’t supposed to per the protection order. She said he has numerous weapons and lives in Texas but is familiar with the city of Salem. She’s going to contact the court and wanted the report documented.
— Rebecca Harper-Peters, 46, of Alliance, was charged with theft after police were called to Walmart on East State Street at 7:29 p.m. Wednesday for an alleged shoplifter. The woman allegedly left without paying for some of her merchandise.
— An alarm activation was reported at 6:38 p.m. Wednesday in the 800 block of West State Street. The building exterior was secure.
— Rebecca Hartley, 44, of 284 E. Fourth St., was taken into custody on a warrant for theft after an officer on patrol at 6:29 p.m. Wednesday saw her in the area of North Broadway and East Fourth and knew about the active warrant. The warrant was through the Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office.
— A suspicious vehicle was reported parked in the 1000 block of Cleveland Street at 5:48 p.m. Wednesday. Police found that the owner had family that lived nearby. A separate parking complaint was reported for a vehicle parked in the street the past two days without moving. A warning tag was placed on the vehicle to have it moved in 48 hours.
— A woman on East Fifth Street reported at 5:06 p.m. Wednesday that her ex-boyfriend who lives in Pennsylvania is harassing her via social media and also contacted a family member and her place of employment trying to get her fired and thrown out of her residence. She only wanted a report on file at this time.
— Police responded to Continental Drive at 5:08 p.m. Wednesday to check on woman. She said she was ok.
— A clerk at Smith Oil on East State Street reported a drive-off for $24.95 at 3:04 p.m. Wednesday. The white Chevy S-10 left westbound on State, but could not be located.
— Nicole Fitch, 40, of East Liverpool, was cited for failure to yield after her westbound vehicle stopped at the stop sign on Southeast Boulevard and pulled out at the intersection at Franklin, getting struck by a southbound vehicle on Franklin driven by Michelle Leipply, 40, of Unity Line Road, New Waterford, at 2:27 p.m. Wednesday. No injuries were reported, although Leipply reported she may seek medical treatment later on her own.
— A domestic was reported at noon Wednesday on Lexington Avenue. Officers spoke with all parties and were told no violence took place and it was just a dispute. The male agreed to leave for the night.
— Officers were requested by fire department first responders for traffic control at 11:32 a.m. Wednesday while they handled a medical in the 500 block of East State Street. EMT transported the person to the hospital.
— An intoxicated driver was reported at 11:13 a.m. Wednesday in the area of South Lincoln Avenue and Aetna Street. Police located the vehicle on Mullins and Newgarden and made contact with the driver in the 800 block of Newgarden Avenue at the registered owner’s address. All was fine.
— Police responded at 9:37 a.m. Wednesday to the 400 block of South Lincoln Avenue to speak with a male juvenile who didn’t want to go to school. The male ran from officers and was located at his residence, locked in the bathroom. Officers were able to gain access to the locked room and spoke with the juvenile about not wanting to go to school. The juvenile officer was made aware of the matter and will be taking care of the situation.
— Police responded to the 1000 block of Newgarden Avenue where a man reported at 9:18 a.m. Wednesday that a female jumped into his vehicle advising she was being chased by persons unknown with knives and she had a sugar problem. Officers told him the department was aware of the female. The man said she then jumped out of his vehicle before officers arrived and ran north on Granite, then west on Liberty Street. She could not be found.
— Police were called at 8:50 a.m. Wednesday to the 1200 block of East State Street for a suspicious person and observed a woman crouched down between the outside glass door and the inside door to the residence. She said she was having medical problems with her sugar, but declined any medical assistance and requested a ride to her residence on Jones Drive where she said she lives with her mother. She was given a ride. Officers were called back to the residence on East State Street to talk with the complainant who wanted to file charges against the woman. She was told a voluntary statement and other paperwork would need filled out for the prosecutor’s officer to review the case for any charges.
— A unruly juvenile possibly wanting to harm herself was reported at 8:37 a.m. Wednesday on West Pershing Street. Police located the female who was attempting to take multiple pills. She was detained until fire department first responders arrived. The mother told police about comments the daughter made and the girl was taken to the emergency room.
— Police were called at 6:50 a.m. Wednesday to the 900 block of Jefferson Avenue for a juvenile not wanting to go to school. Officers were able to convince the boy to go to school.
COLUMBIANA
— Larry G. Rummel, 57, Beard Road, New Waterford, was northbound from Fairfield Avenue at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday and was turning into the Save-A-Lot parking lot and was struck by Mary M. Weber, 83, East Woodland Avenue, Columbiana, who was turning out of the parking lot. No citations were issued due to being on private property.
