POLICE REPORTS

LEETONIA

— At the request of Boardman Township police, an officer checked on a Washingtonville Police Department cruiser at the corner of Butcher Road and Walnut Street at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday that was slow to stop. The driver of the cruiser said he was fine.

— An officer responded to the village storage building on East High Street at 9:45 a.m. Thursday in reference to an alarm. The officer found the door ajar as if someone had not closed it hard enough to latch. Village employees arrived and secured the door.

SALEM

— A hit/skip was reported at 5:57 a.m. Thursday after two vehicles parked on the west side in the 500 block of Woodland Avenue were struck by a third vehicle which fled the scene. The unknown vehicle, described with heavy damage to the right front corner, was traveling south when it struck the first vehicle in the driver’s side door and quarter panel, taking off the outside mirror. The vehicle struck the second vehicle in the rear area, pushing it 10 feet to the south before fleeing by backing up northbound on Woodland, as seen from an outside security camera in the area. No one was injured.

— An officer at 3:04 a.m. Thursday saw a male in the 1200 block of Jennings Avenue wearing mostly black clothing and a backpack. The officer spoke to the male and determined no crime was taking place, allowing him to go his way.

— A 911 hangup call was reported at 1:31 a.m. Thursday in the 800 block of East Third Street. There was no answer at the residence and no commotion in the area.

— A caller at 10:17 p.m. Wednesday reported a dog being left out in the cold in the 700 block of Washington Avenue. Officers had no contact with a dog or owner after going to the residence in question.

— Police were called at 9:35 p.m. Wednesday to the 900 block of West Wilson Street for a dog at large. A caller said the loose dog approached his vehicle to where he could not get out. Officers located the dog but could not catch it. Officers spoke with a female who was dogsitting and said the dog got out by mistake. She said he would come back to the residence once he wasn’t being chased.

— Police were called at 7:56 p.m. Wednesday to the 100 block of West Seventh Street for an attempted suicide by a 15-year-old girl. Fire department first responders and EMT arrived and an officer spoke with the juvenile, who said she had been called a vulgar name by another female juvenile in school, leading her to harm herself. The officer was made aware that the two juveniles have been against each other for awhile now. The officer spoke with the other female’s parents who advised they were aware of the issue and Salem school district was already made aware of the hostility between the juveniles. The juvenile was ultimately transported to Salem Regional Medical Center for evaluation.

— A woman in the 300 block of Newgarden Avenue reported at 6:31 p.m. Wednesday that she was receiving unwanted text messages from another female. A video was also sent from a male saying he wanted to fight a male friend of the woman. Officers were unable to make contact with the people.

— Officers responded at 5:22 p.m. Wednesday to the intersection of East Second Street and North Lincoln Avenue regarding a hit/skip involving a tractor trailer truck that traveled east on Second, then turned right (south) onto North Lincoln Avenue, hitting the stop sign and light post which resulted in glass shattering on the ground. The truck left the area.

— Police responded at 4:13 p.m. Wednesday to the 900 block of West Wilson Street for a civil matter. Per court order, a woman needed officers to stand by at the residence while she removed her belongings. Officers stood by until the process was complete.

— School administration advised at 2:45 p.m. Wednesday that a vehicle was backing out of a parking space when it struck the corner of a school bus. There was no damage to the bus and slight damage to the vehicle.

— A white Dodge pickup was found parked in the 1200 block of North Ellsworth Avenue partially across the sidewalk and in the yard area blocking the sidewalk as kids were leaving school. A man came out and moved the vehicle and was apologetic, but said he moved it for his neighbors who were working in the back and coming in and out of the driveway.

— A neighbor dispute was reported at 2:35 p.m. Wednesday in the 500 block of Continental Drive where a woman said for the past couple of days, kids and parents have been standing on her property in the morning waiting for the bus. She said it’s an ongoing problem and she wanted the incident documented in case the problem continues.

— Police responded at 1:58 p.m. Wednesday to the Salem Public Library on East State Street for a well-being check and found a male sitting at a table on the ground floor at the entrance to the building. He was the male police had been looking for and said he was fine, but gave officers no name. Officers spoke to his mother, who picked him up prior to officers arriving, brought him food and dropped him off at a residence on Cleveland Street. He had gotten into a fight the night before and had a mark on his face. Police had been to the library earlier at 1:02 p.m. for an alleged medical assist involving a person described as injured, but found no one at that time fitting the description.

— Police responded to a parking complaint at 1:48 p.m. Wednesday in the area of South Lincoln and Southeast Boulevard, seeing a work truck with a trailer and work cones and lights on the vehicle at the “S” bend. Officers spoke with two two males who were working on the sewers via manhole entry and made them aware of the complaint. If traffic picks up, they said they will direct traffic.

— An officer at 11:16 a.m. Wednesday responded to Monroe Street to check on a female after Giant Eagle personnel expressed concern over the person’s recent purchases. She was told why the officer was there and about the concerns from Giant Eagle. The female said she met someone online and was requested to sent them money on iTunes to a location outside the United States. The officer told her she had been scammed and not to send anymore money. She was told to contact her credit card company to freeze the account in case she may have given them the account numbers and to delete any further contact with the people on social media.

— Dogs were reported at large in the 500 block of East Third Street at 9:58 a.m. Wednesday. The owner told police they got out accidentally and it will not happen again.

LISBON

— Arianna Tice reported coming across an erratic driver on state Route 164 south at 10:09 a.m. Monday. Police initiated a traffic stop and the driver did not appear to be intoxicated. The woman said she was tending to a child in the backseat, and the officer told her the next time to pull over.

— Heather M. Huffman, 40, East Chestnut Street, reported backing into a pole in front of the East of Chicago building at 2:49 p.m. Tuesday. Huffman said she became distracted while rolling down the window.

— Police were called to a home on East Lincoln Way for a medical situation at 11 p.m. Monday, and the officer remained until an ambulance arrived.

— Police responded to a report of neighbors yelling at 309 E. Chestnut St. at 10:16 a.m. April 14 and the officer told them the yelling and taunting had to quit or they would be charged if he was called back. There were no further problems.

— A barking dog complaint was received in the 400 block of West Washington Street at 1:36 p.m. April 14. Police spoke to the owner, who said she would take the dog indoors.

— Michelle Seidner, Maple Street, reported April 18 someone posted lies about her on the Social Security website. She was told to get police a copy of the misinformation, and she could also obtain a protection order if the person continues to cause problems.

— Police were called to Apple Grove apartments at 9:52 p.m. April 17 for a medical issue, and the officer remained until an ambulance arrived to transport the person to a local hospital.
