-- Officers initiated a traffic stop at 1:53 a.m. Tuesday with a vehicle at South Broadway and Franklin after a Leetonia police officer followed the vehicle on state Route 344 heading into Salem advising of a possible intoxicated driver. The driver was identified and found not to be intoxicated.
-- An interior motion alarm was reported at 1:08 a.m. Tuesday in the 1000 block of East State Street. The exterior of the building was secure.
-- An intoxicated driver was reported at 11:32 p.m. Monday in the 500 block of East State Street, but the vehicle was not found.
-- Police were called at 11:23 p.m. Monday to Speedway, 175 W. State St., for a suspicious person who was in the restroom for an extended period of time. An employee said the person left before officers arrived. Officers checked the restroom but did not locate anything suspicious.
-- Loud music was reported coming at 10:50 p.m. Monday from two vehicles in the Burger King parking lot on East State Street, but when police were in the area, no music was heard.
-- Robert Settle, 45, of Wooster, was charged with theft and taken to the Columbiana County jail after police were called at 10:44 p.m. Monday to the TrueNorth Shell gas station, 2203 E. State St., for a theft report. A woman said a male placed an unknown item in his rear pocket and walked out without making a payment. Officers checked with the store clerk who confirmed the male took one bottle of STP fuel injector cleaner. Officers also watched security footage and confronted the suspect in the parking lot and had the bottle on the hood of the vehicle. The male was arrested and taken into custody.
-- Debris was reported in the road on South Lincoln Avenue and Columbia Street at 10:28 p.m. Monday and was removed.
-- A woman in the 1000 block of West Perry Street reported at 9:51 p.m. Monday that someone rang her doorbell and woke her up. She asked several neighbors, but no one else had their doorbells rung. The incident was under investigation.
-- Amber C. Blackburn, 35, of 624 E. Fifth St., was charged with criminal damaging at her home after police investigated a complaint Monday of a disorderly/irate customer at Walgreens who allegedly intentionally knocked over a drink display, damaging the product. Police were called to the store at 2124 E. State St., at 9:07 p.m. and spoke to the manager and pharmacist who said the customer became upset over her not being able to fill the customer's prescription due to a discrepancy with the DEA number on the script. The customer then reportedly became belligerent with store personnel and as she was leaving, the report said she intentionally knocked three four-packs of a protein drink onto the floor, damaging them. She left before police arrived. Police obtained statements from employees and saw video of the incident which clearly showed the female knocking the items onto the floor. Officers were provided with the suspect's name and responded to her residence where she was arrested but released from the police station on a summons due to a medical issue and taken back home. She was given a court date.
-- A woman in the 300 block of West Wilson Street reported at 8:24 p.m. Monday that she was having work done to her vehicle and the company has since blocked her phone number and now she cannot contact them at all. The woman was told it's a civil matter and she would have to contact civil court regarding the matter.
-- Police were called at 8:24 p.m. Monday to the 400 block of Jennings Avenue for theft. A woman said her daughter was home alone several nights ago and heard someone outside their residence. The woman said she noticed a phone missing from a box on the front porch but didn't think anyone entered the residence.
-- A woman in the 500 block of East Third Street reported at 8:18 p.m. Monday that she was walking home when a male came up and struck her. She could not identify him and believed he left in a dark-colored four-door sedan. The fire department first responders were called to the scene due to the victim having facial injuries. An investigation was pending.
-- An officer at 8:05 p.m. Monday observed a large unattended bonfire in the 400 block of Aetna Street. The fire department extinguished the flames and advised the person what he could and could not burn. The resident was given a warning for open burning.
-- Police were told about vehicles driving through barricades on East State Street at 7:13 p.m. Monday. Multiple officers checked the intersections blocked off by the construction, but no violations were seen at the time.
-- A man in the 1600 block of Shady Lane reported at 7:07 p.m. Monday that a lawn service mows the neighbor's lawn and caused several large ruts in the yard. The owners weren't there and he had no one to contact about the damage. He was told to contact police when the lawn service returned.
-- Police were called at 5:52 p.m. Monday to the 700 block of West Pershing Street where a dog chewed the screen to a window and was attempting to get out of the residence. The homeowner wasn't there, but a neighbor placed cardboard over the window until the residents returned.
-- Police were flagged down at 5:50 p.m. Monday by a man at the intersection of East Pershing and South Ellsworth who said his vehicle was struck from behind while he was stopped in traffic while westbound on Pershing before the intersection. The man said he pulled into a parking lot and the other driver drove away. Charles Horner, of Lisbon, the owner of the Chevy Malibu which was struck, was given a copy of the report number for his insurance.
-- An officer on patrol at 5:33 p.m. Monday saw a thick cloud of smoke coming from back yards in the 1500 block of East Third Street and found a resident supervising a small fire. He admitted throwing a few leaves on at the start and was told leaves are not to be burned. The fire was small with dry wood and appeared under control.
-- Police received a complaint at 5:20 p.m. Monday about a dog that appeared malnourished in the 100 block of North Lincoln Avenue, but did not find the dog.
-- Police were called at 4:44 p.m. Monday to the Giant Eagle parking lot on East State Street for children left in a motor vehicle unsupervised by a parent or guardian. The outside temperature was 84 degrees. Police spoke with witnesses and the children and an officer was able to locate the adult in the store and return the children to her. She was told children services and the prosecutor's office would receive a copy of the report to determine if any charges are appropriate.
-- Police received a complaint at 4:37 p.m. Monday about a small juvenile starting a fire in his back yard. The juvenile said he started the fire to burn garbage. A translator arrived due to a language barrier and the mother was told burning garbage was against the law in the city. She was given a warning for open burning and the small fire was put out by people at the scene.
-- Police responded to a child custody dispute at 4:22 p.m. Monday on East Third Street with the unmarried mother and father of a 9-year-old boy. It was explained to the father that without paperwork from court, the mother has full custody of the child in Ohio. The mother said he would not give the boy back to her and they had issues in the past. The officer talked the father into returning the son without additional charges filed for interference with custody.
-- The utilities department called police at 1:01 p.m. Monday about a loud female at the rear of city hall. The officer found the female at her car talking on a cell phone. The woman was crying and upset but advised she did not need assistance.
-- An officer was dispatched at 11:57 a.m. Monday for a man down in the 800 block of Arch Street. The officer checked and learned it was on Spring Street near West Perry Street and found a man lying face down on a cement driveway. The officer called for fire department first responders and an ambulance. The man was taken by KLG to a hospital for an unknown medical problem.
-- A suspicious odor was reported at 9:35 a.m. Monday in the 200 block of Vine Avenue. The caller showed officers and firefighters where the odor was coming from. The fire department checked for any harmful toxins in the air with their equipment, advising nothing was out of the ordinary.
-- Items found in the 700 block of North Ellsworth Avenue were turned over to police at 7:38 a.m. Monday.
-- Police were called at 7:33 a.m. Monday for a used syringe found outside a business in the 300 block of West Second Street. An officer took the item for proper disposal.
-- A Lisbon man reported at 7:10 a.m. Monday that a neighbor was discarding waste on his property on Aetna Street.
LEETONIA
-- Police responded to Wilson Street at 2:30 p.m. Saturday where the complainant wanted to report that she believed a neighbor had broken into her home and stolen some pictures. She said the neighbor moved items in her house to torment her and believed a woman from Salem had put her neighbor up to these activities. There were no signs of forced entry and she could not identify any objects she believed to be stolen specifically. Police will investigate any criminal wrongdoing and the complainant was advised to install security cameras to help provide her peace of mind.
