SALEM

-- Mark Fowler, 51, of Jefferson Avenue., was charged with obstructing official business, and Tammy May, 41, of West Third Street, was charged with obstructing official business and open container after an incident which started as a traffic registration check at 1:37 a.m. Wednesday in the area of West Wilson and South Ellsworth. An officer had run the registration for a vehicle and learned the owner had a suspended driver's license. Upon circling the block, the officer saw the vehicle pull into a driveway on West Pershing Street and the male driver got out and started running away from the officer. Officers made contact with the female owner, May, who was the front seat passenger, and the male driver, Fowler, who was located outside near Speedway. After obtaining consent to search the vehicle, police found the passenger had an open container of alcohol. During the investigation, officers found both the driver and passenger lied multiple times and obstructed the investigation. After being arrested, both were taken to the Columbiana County jail.

-- Police were dispatched to the 1900 block of Quaker Lane for an alarm, finding an unlocked door while checking the exterior at 12:23 a.m. Wednesday. The interior was also checked with zero suspicious activity found.

-- Two suspicious females were reported at 12:02 a.m. Wednesday in the 1100 block of East State Street, but were not found.

-- James Miletta, 43, of 632 E. Sixth St., was charged with two counts of domestic violence after police took him into custody at 11:11 p.m. Tuesday on Benton Road for a domestic in progress incident reported at 9:07 p.m. at his residence. The victim alleged that her boyfriend physically harmed her by pinning her down on a bed and the floor while punching her in the upper body and chest area. The victim allegedly reported that the male, who was heavily consuming alcohol during the evening, had gotten mad after losing $50. She also said he threatened to kill her. He was taken to the Columbiana County jail.

-- William Hebron, 25, of 459 Mullins St., was cited at 8:39 p.m. Tuesday for a charge of possession of hash liquid stemming from an incident that occurred Oct. 31. During a traffic stop with Hebron, police located a vape pen with a marijuana odor and a cartridge of CBD oil, which was suspected to contain THC. All items were seized at the time, with the cartridge sent for testing.

-- Officers at 8:21 p.m. Tuesday assisted a female with arrangements for one night of lodging due to her current situation. She was also provided assistance and numbers to follow up with for continued assistance.

-- A man at 6:16 p.m. Tuesday contacted police for assistance in getting his dog inside the house on North Madison Avenue after returning home from a veterinary clinic. The dog was unable to walk on its own and due to its size, the man needed help. An officer helped the man carry the dog into the house.

-- Several suspicious people were reported in the 400 block of East Second Street at 5:46 p.m. Tuesday. An officer made contact and was told they were playing Pokemon Go.

-- An officer responded at 4:04 p.m. Tuesday to the 900 block of West Pershing Street to assist a person.

-- An officer at 12:26 p.m. Tuesday returned a call to a parent from North Canton who reported her juvenile son had been assaulted by a teammate during a sporting event held at Salem High School on Sunday. A disagreement between the juvenile victim and juvenile teammate reportedly occurred during the National Anthem when the teammate allegedly open hand-slapped the victim. The victim reportedly slapped the teammate back and then the teammate punched the victim, allegedly causing serious injury that required substantial medical treatment and numerous followup appointments. The incident is under investigation. According to a Salem school official, there was a wrestling tournament going on and the alleged incident did not involve any Salem athletes.

-- Naomi Wilson, 63, of Rose Avenue, was cited for failure to stop for a traffic control device after her westbound vehicle on Second Street failed to stop for the traffic light and struck a southbound vehicle in the intersection at North Ellsworth driven by Lesley Little, 74, of Morgan Court at 12:07 p.m. Tuesday.

-- Officers obtained numerous personal documents found in the 200 block of East Fourth Street and turned in at the station lobby at 11:34 a.m. Tuesday. The items included two driver's licenses, several credit/debit cards belonging to four different people and several rewards cards for various businesses. Officers were attempting to contact the owners.

-- A private property accident was reported at 11:33 a.m. Tuesday in the 100 block of Vine Avenue at the Counseling Center where a Jeep Wrangler with a passenger came out of gear and rolled backwards into another parked vehicle which was unoccupied.

-- An employee of Mortage Contracting Services reported at 10:39 a.m. Tuesday that he was at a property in the 100 block of North Howard Avenue to change the locks per the bank and found the rear door knob appeared damaged, but was locked. It was discovered that the copper plumbing to the hot water tank in the basement and several other pieces of copper had been cut off. It wasn't known when the pipes had been removed.

-- A reckless driver was reported at 8:39 a.m. Tuesday in the 800 block of West State Street, but the vehicle was not found.

-- A fight was reported at 7:36 a.m. Tuesday in the 1400 block of East State Street. There had been a brief altercation between two people but all had separated.

-- Police were called at 11:28 p.m. Tuesday to the 1600 block of State Boulevard for a report of shots fired. An anonymous caller said she heard three consecutive shots go off, but police heard nothing while checking the area.

-- Police responded to the employee parking lot at Fresh Mark on South Lincoln Avenue at 11:04 p.m. Tuesday for a report of a vehicle break-in. A woman reported that sometime between 3:40 p.m. and 7:15 p.m., someone entered her vehicle and stole $46 cash and a pack of cigarettes. She believed the car was unlocked. Police are investigating.

-- A resident in the 1700 block of Painter Road reported at 8:12 a.m. Monday that his vehicle was entered during the midnight hours and some loose change was removed.

-- A woman from Garfield Avenue spoke to police by telephone at 7:15 p.m. Monday regarding her husband, saying he had been yelling at her, was being belligerent and driving around intoxicated almost every day. She wanted a report made.

-- A man from Negley reported Tuesday that he had given his daughter a handgun for protection six weeks ago and that the daughter pawned it in West Virginia at a pawn shop. Police spoke to the daughter who said her dad gave her the gun for protection but she could not keep it since she lives in section eight housing. The man was told to go to the pawn shop and see if it was still there and buy it back. The father denied buying the gun for his daughter, only that he lent it to her. The matter will be sent for review and charges after further investigation.

LISBON

-- Ruth Brown, Graham Street, reported Tuesday her renter, Richard Parrish, moved out but took items that did not belong to him. She was told this was a civil matter.

-- Police responded to a report of a fight between a man and woman in a U-Haul parked beside the Presbyterian Church at 10:19 a.m. Tuesday. The woman punched a mirror while being questioned by police and said she wanted to harm herself, so an ambulance was summoned to transport her to a local hospital. The U-Haul driver, Brian D. Tinker, was cited for driving with a suspended license.
