LEETONIA

— Steven L. Martin, 31, Main Street, Leetonia, was charged with driving under suspension after an officer observed him drive to and from a Columbia Street business at 1:12 p.m. Friday, knowing him to have a suspended license.

— Officers responded to a 300 block Somer Street home at 9:56 p.m. Sunday where the window of a vehicle had been broken and witnesses inside the home reportedly saw another vehicle pull away. The witnesses and vehicle’s owner said that they had been threatened by phone and on social media. During the investigation, officers discovered the smell of methamphetamine and observed physical indicators on the witnesses suggesting use of methamphetamine. An investigation into the possible drug abuse is pending.

— An officer responded to a 100 block Mill Street home at 9:50 a.m. Monday in reference to an adult resident refusing to come out of his bedroom. The officer spoke with the resident who confirmed an issue with medications being changed. He was voluntarily transported by ambulance to the Salem hospital.

— An officer responded to a 400 block Columbia Street home at 11:27 p.m. Monday where the resident reported her husband had come home from the bar and started a fight with her, and struck her on the arm. The husband appeared to intoxicated and claimed that his wife had struck him. Neither had visible injuries nor wished to press charges against the other. The husband agreed to walk to a friend’s house to stay for the night.

PERRY TWP.

— A man at 8:22 p.m. Sunday reported illegal drug activity at a home in the 400 block of Michigan Avenue where he said there are people in and out and he has seen illegal drug activity occur. Information was gathered.

— Joseph Messenger, 26, of Woodsdale Road, Hanoverton, was cited for driving under suspension after a traffic stop at 12:50 a.m. Sunday on South Lincoln Avenue in the 1700 block. Sinsley’s Towing removed the vehicle and Messenger was taken to Circle K South to be picked up by a family member.

— A woman on Bethel Drive called police at 8:20 p.m. Saturday regarding a complaint filed earlier in the day from her husband. She told police he was drunk and was texting his children that she still had his ammo from a gun he retrieved earlier in the day and was going to go to her house and retrieve it. She did not want him over while he was drunk because she was afraid he might start an argument. She was told police could not stop him from going to the residence but if there were any issues to call. Police spoke to him earlier when he called at 8:36 a.m. Saturday regarding an issue with his soon-to-be ex-spouse. He said when he went to the residence to retrieve a firearm, she pointed it at him. He didn’t want to pursue charges but wanted a report on file.

— Police responded to the area of Egypt Road at East Pine Lake Road for a report of live wires down across the road at 4:05 p.m. Friday. Police found no wires were down and the area of concern had already been found and handled a week earlier.

SALEM

— Police were dispatched at 2:15 a.m. Monday to the 700 block of West Wilson Street for a well-being check after a man reported several males showed up at the residence but were not supposed to be there according to the resident, who was not there. Nothing occurred between the man and the others. The report said a male gathered some belongings and left.

— A man in the 400 block of West Fifth Street reported at 12:22 a.m. Monday that his landlord was harassing him through text messages. An officer made contact with the landlord who said they would stop the text messages. Both parties were told their issues were civil.

— D’asia Hubbert, 25, of Youngstown was cited for open container and given a written warning for a moving violation after a traffic stop on East State Street and Park Avenue at 12:23 a.m. Monday. K-9 Argo indicated to the odor of a narcotic during an open air sniff of the vehicle, which was searched. Nothing drug-related was found, but a flask containing liquor was found in the back seat.

— A domestic in progress was reported at 9:50 p.m. Sunday in the 300 block of Fair Avenue where an ex-boyfriend and ex-girlfriend who used to reside together and have a child in common had an argument. She said he broke her cell phone and cable modem. She didn’t want to press charges, but just wanted him gone. Officers sent him on his way.

— A wallet found in the middle of Fairview at 9:49 p.m. Sunday was turned over to police on Carole Drive.

— A clerk at Smith Oil on East State Street called at 8:21 p.m. Sunday to report someone in a blue F-150 pickup left without paying for $26.88 in gasoline.

— Daniel Johnson, 31, of East Pine Lake Road, was cited for a red light violation in the 1200 block of East State Street after a traffic stop at 5:14 p.m. Sunday. An officer saw a vehicle traveling northbound on South Union Avenue, then saw the vehicle turn left onto East State Street while the traffic light was red. During the investigation, officers noticed a narcotics odor coming from the vehicle. A probable cause search was conducted, but no contraband was recovered.

— Police were called at 3:21 p.m. Sunday to the 700 block of East Fifth Street regarding several illegally parked vehicles. Officers made contact with the owners and the vehicles were moved.

— Merari Espada, 39, of North Benton, was cited for passing on the right after a two-vehicle accident at 2:18 p.m. Sunday at East State Street and Vine Avenue when an eastbound vehicle driven by Richard Roloff, 61, of Canfield, attempted to turn right into a private drive and was struck by the Espada vehicle which was trying to pass on the right.

— An officer was aware of a situation occurring just outside the city limits at 2:13 p.m. Sunday and drove by to check on a Goshen Township officer, to assist with checking on a male inside the residence on state Route 14.

— Police responded at 1:11 p.m. Sunday to the 800 block of West Pershing Street for a civil matter. A man said he was at the residence attempting to get some of his property. He was told his options.

— A well-being check was requested at 12:31 p.m. Sunday in the 500 block of South Broadway, but nobody was located.

— Criminal damaging was reported at 10:40 a.m. Sunday in the 1100 block of East Third Street where a man said he started his car in the morning and noticed his back window had been broken. Nothing appeared to be missing.

— A parking violation was reported at 8:34 a.m. Sunday in the 1100 block of Cleveland Street. After contact was made, the vehicle was moved.

— A man in the 1300 block of Jefferson Avenue reported at 7:59 a.m. Sunday that someone put a hole in the gas tank of his truck.

— Jordan Strabala, 28, of 1248 Westview Drive, was cited for operating a vehicle under the influence, a turn signal violation and a minor misdemeanor for possession of marijuana after a traffic stop at 2:30 a.m. Sunday in the 200 block of South Ellsworth Avenue.

LISBON

— Sheriff’s deputies asked police to check on a woman, possibly lying on the side of the road on U.S. Route 30 west, at 3:18 p.m. Saturday. She was described as having a backpack, a hat and possibly pink hair. Police found Ruth Brooks, walking along the side of the road and matching the description given. A Highway patrol unit assisted getting her home due to her “at risk” pregnancy.

— A broken window was reported at Lewton’s Garage, Nelson Street, at 7:41 a.m. Monday. There was a rock inside the business, which appeared to be how the window was broken.

— Police and a highway patrol trooper responded to a North Market Street apartment at 3:11 a.m., Sunday. Eli Ruffner had both eyes black and blue, apparently assaulted in the face. Ethan Ruffner, his brother, told the police no one was assaulted and denied anyone else was there. Eli Ruffner stated his attacker was white with long red hair before admitting it was his brother who hit him. Ethan Ruffner, 28, Union Ridge Road, Negley, was charged with domestic violence.

— A possible domestic was reported at 5:38 p.m. Friday at a Sherman Street home between a mother, Christina Garver, and her adult daughter, Cambra Kauffman. Both stated it was an argument and they were separating for the night.

— Georgia Smith of Lisbon reported at 5:50 p.m. Friday there was a woman lying on the side of state Route 154 near the BP gas station. Police did not find anyone lying near the road nor walking in the area matching the description given.

— Miller Crawford of Lisbon reported a woman having possible health issues in the Save A Lot parking lot at 6:53 p.m. Friday. Destany Stevens told police she was having a panic attack and chest pains due to her ex-boyfriend overdosing in Salineville, which she believed was her fault. EMT arrived and transported her to a local hospital.

— Jeffrey L. Arter, 61, North Market Street, was stopped at 8:07 p.m. Friday after police saw him turn right from High Street onto North Market Street, directly into the left of the two lanes, then down the middle of the two lanes straddling them. Arter did not appear able to form sentences, had a strong odor of alcohol and was charged with OVI and marked lanes. At the highway patrol, Arter reportedly registered with a .195 breath sample.

— Police saw Harold R. Frederick, 58, Eastlake Road, Lisbon, on North Jefferson Street weaving into the center and left area of the road, then pulling into the Eagle’s parking lot. He then left the parking lot without dropping anyone off or picking them up. Police stopped him for a loud exhaust and the weaving at the Circle K parking lot. He was cited for OVI, no license and weaving after registering a .100 on a breath test at the highway patrol post.

COLUMBIANA

— Alex M. Caldwell, 18, Niles, was stopped at 4:51 p.m. Sunday when he had no front plate on the car he was driving. A search of the vehicle produced a foil pouch with labeling for THC, an empty vape cartridge inside and a vape pen with an identical cartridge attached. Caldwell admitted the cartridge had THC in the cartridge and was cited with drug possession.

— Police assisted with a medical call at the Camelot Apartments at 4:04 a.m. Sunday.

EAST PALESTINE

— Police responded to Rite Aid at 7:52 p.m. Sunday where there was a problem with a customer. The woman involved was later served with a letter informing her she will be charged with trespassing if she returns to the store.

— Shannon and David Jones, North Pleasant Drive, reported at 10:06 a.m. Sunday someone backed into their driveway to turn around in the alley near their home and they wished to file charges. The Jones said the people had been previously warned to stay off their property. Police informed them, what they described is not a crime, but a report will be on file.

— Renee Jones, no address listed, reported at 11:47 a.m. Saturday someone used her identity to open two T-Mobile accounts.

— An East Clark Street mother reported at 3:52 p.m. Friday she is having problems with her 14-year-old son.
