LISBON -- North Beaver Street resident Daniel Lee Taylor found himself the subject of 16 police calls and reports in an eight-day period, starting on June 2, but none resulted in any charges being filed against him.
The first occurred at 1:45 a.m. June 2, when a clerk at the Circle K reported a man loitering around outside was making her nervous. Police arrived to find Taylor, 49, with a puppy in his hand and he told them he wanted the clerk to come out and take a look. He then began to walk home.
The clerk told the police she just thought it was weird that he would ask her to go on break so she could see his dog, and it made her feel uneasy.
At 4:39 a.m. June 3, police were called to the Valley View store by a clerk who said Taylor had been coming in and out but never buying anything, saying he was there to check on his resume. Taylor was told he could not loiter around there, and the clerk was told if the owner wanted him banned from the premises he should call the police department.
Police were called to Taylor's apartment house at 7:30 p.m. June 5 because he was reportedly outside swinging a stick and yelling. Taylor told police he had been yelling after he broke a broom handle, and he was the process of taping it back together when the officer arrived. Taylor agreed to be more quiet.
Police were called back to the Valley View at 4:40 a.m. June 6 after a clerk complained about Taylor loitering about and bothering him. Taylor apologized, saying her never meant to cause any problems. The clerk said Taylor could come in the convenience store if he planned to buy something. Taylor then left
A caller reported at 8:24 a.m. June 7 that Taylor was seen picking his dog up by the leash, which he denied.
A person at Richardson Monuments reported there was a man in an orange shirt with a dog walking into their business garage across the street at 5 p.m. June 7, and the caller's pregnant wife was "creeped out." Police caught up with Taylor and told him to stay away or he could be charged with criminal trespass.
Police were called to the Lisbon Veterinary Clinic at 5:20 p.m., where they found a shirtless Taylor walking his dog in the parking lot. He was told the business did not want him doing that, and he left without incident.
Police received a call of a man bothering customers at Smith Oil at 4:37 p.m. Saturday. Police found Taylor on the property and told him he needed to leave, which he did.
A caller reported there was a suspicious person walking around the Eastern Ohio Correctional Center at 5:41 p.m. Saturday, and they saw a man matching the description across the street and it was Taylor. Taylor said he was just on his way home when he stopped to talk to someone.
Police were called to the rear entrance of the Courthouse Inn at 11 p.m. Saturday in regard to a suspicious man walking around the building as they were preparing to close. Police said a description of the man matched Taylor, although he was not found there. Police remained until the staff closed for the night.
At 5:40 p.m. Sunday, Taylor was found lying in a front yard on North Beaver Street, and the caller said he appeared to be talking to a bucket. Taylor told the officer he was napping in his front yard. A short time later, police received another call that he was lying in his front yard. Police checked again, and Taylor said he was just painting in the yard with his dog.
At 8:19 p.m. Sunday, a caller reported seeing a man urinate in the parking lot across the street from Numbers Brewery. No one was there, but police later located Taylor in the Save A Lot parking lot. Taylor admitted to urinating the parking lot, saying he has a bladder problem from a prior surgery. The officer told him he needs to stay closer to home if he is having problems of this sort and warned Taylor the next time he was be cited.
The last three complaints occurred on Monday, starting when someone from Smith Oil called at 12:05 p.m. to say Taylor was back and they did not want him there. Police arrived to find Taylor across the street in front of the library. He was told not to go to Smith's unless he was going to purchase something.
Three hours the manager at Valley View called to say Taylor was in the parking lot and they wanted him to leave, which he did after police told him to. The manager said they are going to provide the police department with a letter stating Taylor was not welcome on the premises.
At 10:24 p.m. Monday, police were called back to Smith Oil because Taylor was reportedly bothering people for cigarettes. Police found Taylor by the Steel Trolley Diner and his face was painted blue, carrying a walking stick and talking nonsense. Taylor was told to just go home.
