Sheriff’s Office

— Deputies were dispatched at 10:35 p.m. Dec. 28 to Wood Aly, Washingtonville, for a domestic violence report, with assistance from Goshen Township Police District from Mahoning County. Brandon Shaffer, 28, Wood Aly, Washingtonville, was taken into custody for domestic violence and taken to the county jail. He already appeared in Columbiana County Municipal Court for arraignment on the domestic violence charge for allegedly head butting a woman and pushing her around on Dec. 28. He’s facing a pretrial on Jan. 9.

— A man on Taylor Road, Middleton Township, called at 8:48 p.m. Dec. 28 to request a report on file that his grandson in Liverpool Township is calling and harassing him after he has been told multiple times to stop.

— A man on Salem Grange Road, Salem Township reported a breaking and entering report at 5:29 p.m. Dec. 28 at his detached garage on his property.

— A man on Lisbon Road, Salem Township reported at 5:23 p.m. Dec. 28 that his neighbor has been shooting for over an hour and it sounds like a shotgun.

— A woman on Lynchburg Road, West Township reported at 4:44 p.m. Dec. 28 that her relative is telling her she needs to move out of the residence and won’t let her take her belongings. She was advised to contact an attorney.

— A woman on Edward Circle, Fairfield Township reported at 9:39 p.m. Dec. 27 that a person from the state of Oklahoma is harassing her on social media.

Salem

— Officers responded to the area of East Pershing Street and Penn Avenue at 11:46 p.m. Wednesday for a reported suspicious person. Officers searched the area but were unable to locate them.

— Officers responded to the 500 block of Franklin Avenue at 2:46 p.m. Wednesday for a reported runaway juvenile. Officers located the juvenile in the 400 block of South Lundy Avenue and transported them back to their residence.

— Officers responded to the 200 block of Vine Avenue at 1:28 p.m. Wednesday for a reported medical call. Officers spoke with the person in question who did make statements of self-harm and was transported to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital for an evaluation.

— Officers responded to the 500 block of Columbia Street at 10:26 a.m. Wednesday for a reported hit and skip. A legally parked and unoccupied vehicle was struck by an unknown vehicle before fleeing the scene

— Officers responded to the 2400 block of East State Street at 10:05 a.m. Wednesday for a report of criminal damaging. The caller advised that he had been in a verbal altercation prior to parking his vehicle and entering a store and was advised by an employee that someone had hit his vehicle. Officers watched video of the incident and viewed a vehicle pull up to the caller’s vehicle and park beside it before striking the driver’s side mirror and driving off. The business manager advised that he would look into making a copy of the video for officers and the caller advised that he did not want to pursue charges at that time.

— Officers responded to the 400 block of Aetna Street at 7:09 a.m. Wednesday for a report of menacing. Officers spoke with the person involved and advised them of their options for dealing with the situation.

— Officers responded to the area of Centennial Park at 12:29 a.m. Wednesday for a report of possible shots fired. Officers checked the area for several minutes and all was quiet.

— Officers responded to the 300 block of East Third Street at 10:49 p.m. Tuesday for a reported intoxicated person. Dispatch advised a woman was intoxicated and had struck her husband. The caller advised that her mother was extremely intoxicated and becomes violent when she drinks. Contact was made with the woman who was heavily intoxicated and due to her violent and threatening behavior she was warned for disorderly conduct and advised to go to bed for the night and leave the rest of the family alone. While officers were still on scene the woman, Angela Uy, 43, Salem, threatened to physically harm her husband and daughter in front of officers and officers learned that she had threatened to harm her husband with a knife prior to their arrival. Uy was subsequently placed into custody for domestic violence and transported directly to the Columbiana County Jail due to her irate behavior toward officers.

— Officers responded to the 800 block of Trimble Street at 10:27 p.m. Tuesday for an unknown issue. Officers spoke with the woman who advised that she thought she was overdosing on a narcotic due to having hallucinations. The fire department and EMT responded, and the person was transported by EMT.

— Officers responded to the 500 block of Franklin Avenue at 8:33 p.m. Tuesday for a follow-up investigation. Officers were unable to contact anyone at the residence.

— Officers responded to the 500 block of East Sixth Street at 8:12 p.m. Tuesday for a reported fight. Upon arrival officers found that the issue was actually a fire and that a propane tank was on fire at the residence and the fire department responded to put the fire out.

— Officers responded to the 400 block of West Pershing Street at 7:41 p.m. Wednesday for a reported suspicious person. The caller advised that two juveniles were loitering around a junk yard. Officers located the juveniles walking in the area advising them of the complaint, and they advised they were just walking to the store.

— Officers responded to the 400 block of Ohio Avenue at 7:16 p.m. Wednesday for a reported burglary report. The caller advised that two people kicked their front storm door and ran off. Damage was caused and photographs were taken, and the matter is under investigation.

— Officers responded to the area of South Cunningham Road and East State Street at 4:21 p.m. Wednesday for a reported reckless operator. The vehicle was observed parking at a business and officers spoke with the driver, advising them of the complaint, and he advised that he was neither driving recklessly nor impaired and was just riding close to the curb.

— Officers responded to the 200 block of Ohio Avenue at 2:52 p.m. Wednesday to check for a juvenile with a warrant out of Columbiana County. While attempting contact the juvenile, he fled from officers on foot and pushed an officer while doing so. Officers attempted to locate the juvenile but were unsuccessful and further investigation showed the family knew about the warrant and were knowingly harboring the juvenile. When officers were pursuing the juvenile, a relative was yelling vulgarities at officers and telling the juvenile to keep running. Charges for assault on an officers and obstruction of official business will be sent to the juvenile court. While officers attempted to speak with the family, the relative of the juvenile became belligerent with officers and “squared up with closed fists,” and failed to provide ID when requested by officers. As a result, the relative, Lane Phillips, 20, Salem, was taken into custody and transported to the Columbiana County Jail charged with obstruction of official business, resisting arrest, obstruction of justice and menacing.

— Officers responded to the 600 block of West Seventh Street at 10:08 a.m. Wednesday to assist the Youngstown Police Department with a follow-up for an ongoing investigation. Officers stood by with Youngstown officers.

— Officers responded to the area of Franklin Avenue and Summit Street at 10 a.m. Wednesday for a wellness check. Officers located a woman that advised she was homeless. While speaking with the woman, a passer-by stopped and advised she volunteers at a shelter and gave her a ride there.

— Officers responded to the 1700 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 7:25 a.m. Wednesday for a reported hit and skip. Officers were advised that the caller’s vehicle was struck while unoccupied and parked in a parking lot by an unknown vehicle. Photographs were obtained and a report was made, and officers will be reviewing video footage in an attempt to identify the other vehicle.

— Ronald Miller, 73, Salem, was cited for failure to yield after his northbound vehicle on Georgetown Road failed to stop at a stop sign and struck a vehicle driven by Joseph Jarret, 43, Sebring, at 6:04 a.m. Wednesday.
