Big money being spent on Ohio’s U.S. Senate race

The $9.1 million U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan raised from donors in the second quarter for his Senate campaign is an amount never before seen in Ohio. Still, I don’t know if it’s enough to get him elected in a largely Republican state during a year expected to be terrible nationally for Democrats. While money doesn’t always translate to victories, particularly in the situation Ryan finds himself in, he is proving to be a formidable candidate. A poll commissioned by Ryan’s campaign shows a statistical deadheat for the seat with Republican J.D. Vance. While polls paid for by campaigns ...

Balancing relationships

Sheila hadn’t expected the day to start quite that way. But Herb had fallen coming in the house late the night before. She felt a lot of demands on her and little appreciation. From anyone. So, when he tried to blame her for his fall, she exploded. And when he tried to make her feel guilty for his fall, she gave him to know that he was mistaken, and why. A wise woman once told me, “In a good relationship both persons give 100 percent and take only what they need.” To which I said, “That works well if both persons in the relationship do this.” Some people are good at giving, ...

Carbon monoxide can be silent killer

EDITOR’S NOTE: This column originally ran on March 21, 2020 --- Thanks to breakthroughs in medicine and nutrition in recent years, we are living longer than ever before. Big business is exploiting the nation’s inflation crisis

With inflation rising, and gas prices climbing, millions of families across the nation are struggling. It’s extremely worrying—that families can’t afford weekly groceries or the gas to fill their car tank. As bad as that is, however, consider something equally disturbing: Despite earning record profits, some of America’s best-known companies—including Apple, Google, Home Depot, Tesla, and Whirlpool—are currently seeking help from the federal government to further boost their earnings—and at the expense of U.S. workers. Yes, you read that right. Many of America’s largest ...

What is your life purpose?

I think everyone has been at that place where we ask ourselves, “Who am I? Why am I here? What is the purpose for my life?” Have you ever heard of the “Lost Generation”? The Lost Generation were born between 1883 and 1900, just after the advent of the Industrial Revolution. Literacy was more widespread and civilization was changing, even though families still remained strict in social values. It is said that World War I, the war to end all wars, was the defining moment of their lives. Women had more freedom and the Roaring Twenties had deep impact on cultural changes. This also ...

JUUL pulled from market by FDA

Vaping. We have talked about this topic a number of times because so many people believe vaping is harmless water vapor and a way to stop smoking tobacco. Neither is true. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has ordered JUUL to stop selling e-cigarettes in this country. The FDA website advises that “On June 24, 2022, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. circuit entered a temporary administrative stay of the marketing denial order for JUUL Labs Inc…” and stated that all JUUL products must be removed from the U.S. market. The company has failed to provide sufficient ...
