Mr. and Mrs. William (Tasi) Carter celebrating golden anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. William (Tasi) Carter of South Lincoln Avenue, Salem, will celebrate 50 years of marriage today. They were married in 1971 in Salem. The ceremony was conducted by the Rev. William Longsworth, and the bride’s uncle, the Rev. Herman Lehwald of Missouri.

Parents of the bride were Dr. Carl and Caroline Lehwald M.D. Parents of the bridegroom were Peter and Norma Carvelas.

Both are 1964 graduates of Salem High School. Mrs. Carter graduated in elementary education from Kent State University, she taught fourth grade for eight years, four of which were in Salem. Mr. Carter graduated from Youngstown State University with an industrial engineering degree. He worked at Ford Motor Company in Dearborn, Mich. before retiring in 2002 after 30 years of service. They lived in Plymouth, Mich. before returning home in 2004.

The couple has two daughters, Sarah Lehwald Carter of Canton, Mich., and Carrie (David) Klimkowicz of Ann Arbor, Mich., and two grandsons, Carter and Easton.

A trip to celebrate their marriage will be taken in the fall to Gatlinburg, Tenn., where they honeymooned.
