Lawrence and Betty Osborn celebrate 70th wedding anniversary

It’s been 70 years of living, loving – and laughter: Lawrence says, “Let me cut the cake!” and Betty says, “Don’t even think about it!”

Lawrence and Betty (Starbuck) Osborn celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on Aug. 22. A party was given in their honor on Aug. 21 at their home in Salem, with 70 family members in attendance. A delightful and memorable time was had by all as the family gathered to express their love and appreciation for this very special couple.

Lawrence and Betty were married on Aug. 22, 1951, in Monteverde, Costa Rica, in the first Quaker wedding in Costa Rica. They were two of a small group of Quaker pioneers who first settled Monteverde in 1951, and Lawrence and Betty were married very soon after their arrival. They lived in Monteverde for eight years, during which time they had four of their seven children. After moving back to the States, they made their home first in Iowa and then in Ohio where they have lived for over 60 years. Currently, they have 29 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren. The all-inclusive family total is 102 – and growing!

Lawrence’s last job before retirement was working for Ellyson Plumbing & Heating in Salem; Betty retired from Crandall Medical Center in Sebring, where she was employed as an LPN. They enjoyed resurrecting and living in a historic log cabin in Jeromesville, Ohio, for over 25 years before moving back to Salem at the end of 2019. Their greatest pleasure is having family and friends stop in to visit. Their address is 2332B Depot Road, Salem, Ohio 44460.

Starting at $2.99/week.
