Yvonne Manypenny celebrates 90 years

DEERFIELD–Yvonne (Leask) Manypenny recently celebrated her 90th birthday at the home of her daughter, Sally Sampson, in Deerfield with about 30 family members in attendance.

Manypenny was born in Simcoe, Ontario, Canada, on Nov. 16, 1926, to Fred and Sarah (Welsby) Leask. Two years later she traveled with her family to Akron where she eventually attended Garfield Schools and Deerfield High School.

With the coming of World War II, she attended riveting class at Firestone Aircraft and riveted C-46 Transport Wings. She later was employed as a cashier for Persky’s of Alliance.  Following her retirement from Persky’s, she managed her own dairy operation in North Benton for 14 years. Her husband, Robert Manypenny, farmed the family homestead on Johnson Road with his father and brother, Glenn. The Manypenny Dairy was in operation more than 50 years.

She has eight children, Sally (Sweesy) Sampson (Don) of Deerfield, Sandra (Sweesy) Stout of Berlin Center, Arlene (Langties) Picciano of Canton, Dan Langties (Lillia) of Salem, Norman Langties of Santa Ana, Calif.; Jack Langties, deceased; George Langties (Jane) of Salem; and Glenn Travis Langties, deceased.

Her brother, Maurice Leask, resides in Deerfield. Her oldest brother, Jack, is deceased. She also has 17 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
