Salem resident marks 100 years with bowlers

Longtime Salem resident Angela “Angie” Young celebrated her 100th birthday with a party given by family and bowling friends April 30 at Hunt Club Lanes. Young was born May 3, 1921 in central Italy and immigrated to Syracuse, N.Y. in 1929. She worked as a bookkeeper before marrying her husband Clayton and starting a family. The Youngs moved to Salem in 1964 with their children Pam, Mark, John and Wendy, and in quick time Angela joined a Wednesday afternoon bowling league, where she served as team captain until retiring in her mid-90s. Remaining active throughout her life, she competed in the Senior Olympics while in her 80s, winning 12 medals. She now bowls weekly with a group of senior bowlers at Hunt Club Lanes, continuing to enjoy the sport and friendship that comes with it. (Submitted photo)
