Salem Hills golf course, restaurant to be sold at auction
SALEM – After closing late last year, the Salem Hills Golf and Country Club will be auctioned off at 12:30 p.m., March 2 at the golf course located at 12688 Salem-Warren Road.
The public golf and country club closed on Dec. 21 for economic reasons.
Rusty Kiko of Kiko Auction said the owner is retiring and everything sells to the highest bidder in the absolute auction.
Kiko said the property, which includes a 147.5 acre, 18-hole course and the Colonial Woods Restaurant, is a “turnkey business.”
The property will be sold as a unit with all the maintenance and restaurant equipment.
Kiko said there was a thought of splitting it up but that was rejected.
“It’s pretty much ready to go,” he said, adding potential buyers have expressed an interest.
There is no reserve and bidders must register with a $50,000 letter of credit and the winning bidder must have a 10 percent deposit for the sale.
“This has a lot of potential,” Kiko said, “it’s a good course, a good location and well maintained.”
He called it a great opportunity where “plenty of money has been spent and the new owner can pick up where the former owner left off. It’s time for new management, it has great potential.”
The property is in Goshen Township (unzoned) in Mahoning County and has Salem sewer.
“It’s going to be sold,” Kiko said.
Along with the irrigated course with 5.5 miles of asphalt cart paths, there is a nearly 19,000 square foot club house, a large commercially-equipped kitchen, driving range, two putting greens, nine lakes, storage and maintenance building and an in-ground swimming pool.
The facility also features a grille room, lounge, pro shop, private party rooms, second-level banquet facility, men’s locker room, women’s locker room, a large parking lot and a D-6 liquor license.
There is also groundskeeping equipment, about 15 golf carts, tractors, mowers and many assorted hand tools.
Kiko said private showings of the building are available by appointment for potential buyers, noting he does have showings scheduled.
The auction will take place indoors and will open at 10 a.m. on March 2 with registration right up until the 12:30 p.m. auction begins.
