SALEM — When it held a grand opening on Oct. 17, Tyler Rogers, owner of the North Jersey Pizza Company, said the next day “we completely sold out of a week’s worth of food in one day.”
The new pizza shop is located at 990 W. State St. in the building previously operated by the Sugar Shack Kettle Corn business.
Rogers said the North Jersey Pizza Company name was derived from visiting New York City.
“We liked the food and culture in Brooklyn and Jersey areas,” Rogers, who lives in Minerva, said.
Late last summer he, his fiancee and business co-manager Shelby Gallon, drove past the West State Street location on their way to a business on the east side of Salem.
“We saw this location when we drove by and gave them a call and it worked out,” he said, adding it took six or seven weeks to make it operational.
Rogers has over eight years experience working at “Your Pizza Shop” in Minerva which his father owns.
The North Jersey Pizza Company is family owned and the four employees are family members. His mother, Jennifer Martin, also co-manages the business.
“We deliver where others won’t is our slogan,” Rogers said, noting the delivery area includes Leetonia, Guilford Lake, Damascus and Beloit.
“In about a 15-minute radius,” he said, adding, “that’s a big thing for us and we’re open on Friday and Saturday until 1 a.m.”
Rogers noted, “We make our own dough and sauce everyday from complete scratch. Every day. It’s a lot of work, but man, it’s worth it.”
He said the average pizza-making time is 15 to 20 minutes but, “sometimes Friday and Saturday nights are so busy it takes 30 to 35 minutes so we have a television and seating for 20.”
He added, “Our Philly steaks are legendary. The word around town is we have the best subs in town. The Phillies and gyros are a big hit and our wings are less expensive than anyone else.”
Since opening, “business has been booming,” Rogers said, “we’ve been packed, wall-to-wall.”
The North Jersey Pizza Company also does catering.
“Customers can call and ask. We have great deals on catering and delivery,” he said.
Hours are Tuesday through Thursday 2 p.m. until 11 p.m. and from 11 a.m. until 1 a.m. on Friday and Saturday.
Sunday hours are 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. and the business is closed on Monday.
