NEW WATERFORD -- Village council is expected to approve legislation for the mayor and fiscal officer to hire an engineering contractor for the proposed water line to the Crestview School District, when it meets on Tuesday.
Mayor Shane Patrone said it is a formality and the start to getting the three-mile long water line to Crestview campus built.
The school district will pay for the line.
Patrone said everyone is on board. With the engineering plan started, applications for grant money from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency and the Ohio Public Works Commission can be submitted in February or March.
The project should track closely along the same timeline as the multi-million dollar water distribution renovations have proceeded in the village, he said, adding they could know about funding in June.
If that were to be the case, "We hope to start in the fall," Patrone said.
The water line will pump to an elevated location and require at least one pump station for the size of the line expected to be used, he said, adding they have a "fairly good idea" of what it will be. The line will use the north side of Crestview Road for the right-of-way.
In other business, Patrone said the traffic light at the State and Main streets intersection -- in the heart of the village -- has be out since Wednesday.
"Special parts are being shipped in," he said. "We hope to fix it Monday (today)."
Also, Patrone said they are working on the extended Halloween celebration from 1-5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27.
The afternoon will include games, candy, prizes, crafts, and booths from area organizations. There will be touch-a-truck area featuring the police cars, fire and EMS trucks and construction vehicles.
Kids should come dressed up in their Halloween costumes and there will be registration at 4:30 p.m. for the costume judging contest that will begin with judging at 5 p.m.
Also, on Oct. 20 the New Waterford Lions roast beef dinner will be held at Crestview High School, from 4-7 p.m.
The cost is $11 for adults, and $6 for children, with pre-sale tickets $10 and $5 each by calling 330-482-2444.
The Lions is a service organization which fights blindness and helps supply eye glasses to the needy in the area.
Village council will meet in regular session at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
