St. Ann gears up to sell thousands of pierogies

SEBRING -- St. Ann Catholic Church is gearing up for another big year in pierogi sales.
The church's annual sale begins Friday and will be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. every Friday during Lent Season, now through April 3. The church is located at 323 S. 15th St. in Sebring.
The sale features homemade potato and cheese, jalapeno and cheese and kraut pierogies as well as haluski. Apple fritters and drinks are also available for purchase.
Cost is $7.50 per dozen pierogies and customers can get them with onions, peppers and marinara sauce.
The pierogies are available for dine in or carry out as well as frozen. People can walk in or place advance orders with their name and time of pick up by calling 330-938-2033 during the week and 330-938-9678 on Fridays. Orders and meals can be paid for with credit card.
According to coordinator Marylou Foster, the church has been holding the event for at least 25 years. Volunteers make approximately 60,000 pierogies each year, she said, with about 35 volunteers during the week and at least 45 between two shifts on Fridays.
By purchasing items from the sale, community members can help benefit others in the area.
Proceeds from the event are used for improvements at the church as well as to assist the needy in the community, Foster noted. The Association of Churches in Sebring also holds a bake sale each Friday featuring homemade desserts, the proceeds of which are used specifically for scholarships for high school seniors.
"It's a great event for not only our community, but surrounding ones, too," Foster said, noting residents from Salem to Alliance attend the church.
The church also sells doughnuts made from scratch beginning at 9 a.m. the first Sunday of each month.
