United earns ‘Auditor of State Award’
HANOVERTON – The United Local School District has earned the “Auditor of State Award” for Fiscal Year 2019.
Auditor of State Keith Faber announced that the district has earned the award which is presented to local governments for a “clean” audit. The award is presented for excellence in financial reporting in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and compliance with applicable laws for the fiscal year ending in 2019.
The Auditor of State Award is presented to local governments and school districts upon the completion of a financial audit. Entities that receive the award meet the following criteria of a “clean” audit report:
– The entity must file timely financial reports with the Auditor of State’s office in the form of a CAFR (Comprehensive Annual Financial Report);
– The audit report does not contain any findings for recovery, material citations, material weaknesses, significant deficiencies, Single Audit findings or questioned costs.
“This is a great achievement for the United Local School District and we are honored to receive it,” said school Treasurer Melissa Baker. “This award shows our commitment to maintaining accurate financial records along with our commitment to being accountable and transparent to our residents. Being fiscally responsible is an utmost priority in our district.
“It also shows the continued dedication to adhere to our financial integrity held by so many people throughout our district.”
In a written statement, Baker recognized the members of her staff, assistant treasurer Rita Mint and payroll officer LeAnn Albright; those who handle money for the district including secretaries, cafeteria cashiers, superintendent’s secretary, ticket takers, student advisors and faculty advisors; and the school board.
“First, I would like to thank the Treasurer’s Office staff members for their work ethic and diligence,” she said. “These individuals did an outstanding job throughout the year. Their diligence and hard work is a major reason that the school district has received this award.
“Second, I would like to recognize everyone at the district who has handled money for their efforts and strict adherence to the money handling policies and procedures.
Lastly, I would like to thank for [school] board for their continued faith in me and their strong commitment to the United Local School District.”
On the award, Faber praises the recipient for a job well done by the residents.
“The citizens you represent are well-served by your effective and accountable financial practices,” it says.
