Signs of the times

1 min read

These signs are posted on opposite corners of the intersection of South Broadway Avenue and East Pershing Street, with one taped to the door of Salem City Hall and the other advertising that a local restaurant has carryouts available. Barber shops, hair salons, tattoo shops and the Bureau of Motor Vehicles were the latest businesses ordered closed by the governor to reduce contact between citizens due to the coronavirus, joining movie theaters, bowling alleys, fitness centers and rec centers on the list. Bars and restaurants are closed to in-house patrons but can offer carryouts. Stores remain open, but many under reduced hours. Schools are also closed.
