New mower donated to Firestone Park

COLUMBIANA -- In 2019 Pat Tingle donated a new golf cart to Firestone Park, and at Tuesday's city council meeting City Manager Lance Willard publicly thanked Tingle for her next donation: a new 72-inch Scag Mower from Hilltop Lawn and Garden.
"We were very surprised, honored and thankful to learn of the donation," Willard said. "In this difficult time, with tight budgets, we welcomed the new commercial mower. We want to thank Pat for her generous donation."
In other business, Mayor Bryan Blakeman read a proclamation to honor the Columbiana High School seniors, as their graduation process has been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
In response to the virus canceling senior prom, athletics, an in-person commencement and limiting guests at graduation parties, Blakeman has proclaimed May 15 to be Columbiana Senior Day.
"I want to extend my personal congratulations and those of city council and city officials to honor this great achievement in each of their lives," Blakeman said. "I urge all of our citizens to take a moment and let these young adults know that they are cared for and appreciated in our community."
Willard said the COVID-19 drive-thru testing performed at the park went very well, and there were about 200 tests completed for the site. As Gov. Mike DeWine is thinking of a plan to open the state up for business, Willard said the testing was timely.
Due to the pandemic, city officials continue to update the website and listen to the governor every day to ensure they are up to date on mandates and information. The city will continue to keep city hall and the drive-up window closed for the month of May, but payments may still be made at the drive-up drop box, by regular mail, through the bank or online for free.
Willard has continued to work closely with the Chamber and Tourism Board to work on a few ideas to help raise the spirits in the city. A block party event is being sorted out with the help of Police Chief Tim Gladis where the chamber will ride around to various neighborhoods and play music for a short time.
With many financial problems adding up for many municipalities, Councilman Skip Liston took an opportunity to recognize the efforts of Willard and Blakeman.
"I feel so blessed that the city that we have is financially sound and we are moving forward," Liston said. "We don't have those issues, and I want to give a big thanks to Bryan and Lance for getting everything done. I just think it's a job well done."
The next regularly scheduled council meeting is set for 7 p.m. May 19.
