Goshen trustees OK employee raises

GOSHEN TOWNSHIP -- Township employees will be receiving a raise this year.

Trustees have granted a three percent pay raise to all full-time employees and a $1 per hour increase for all part-time employees.

In other business, the trustee re-elected Teresa Stratton as chair and John Bricker as vice-chair for the year. They also appointed Damascus Fire Chief Derek Day as temporary fire prevention officer pending the slated fire department elections.

Also at the meeting the trustees established the supervising duties as follows (primary, secondary, third): Bricker, Mesler and Stratton for cemeteries; Stratton, Bricker and Mesler for police; Stratton, Bricker and Mesler for police equipment; Mesler, Bricker and Stratton for road department; Mesler, Bricker and Stratton for road equipment; Stratton, Mesler and Bricker for house numbers and culvert permits; Bricker, Mesler and Stratton for fire department dependency board; Stratton, Mesler and Bricker for parks; Stratton and Fiscal Officer Tom Knoedler for records commission; and Bricker, Messler and Stratton for buildings. The trustees will act as a board in the need of road building, repairs and maintenance. Township roads will be evaluated in the spring after winter thawing takes place to determine road maintenance for the year.

During the trustees' year end meeting, Day reported 157 fire runs and 364 EMS runs (280 in Goshen, 77 in Butler and seven others) for 2020; and Roads Foreman Matt Springer reported 2020 totals of five culvert installations, two cross over pipes replaced, 2,180 tons of free grindings hauled from ODOT, 92 tons of limestone used, 250 tons of asphalt used, 4.5 tons of cold patch used, 3,700 pounds of crack seal used on 1.7 miles of roads, 15 burials, seven head stones installed, 27 snow and ice events and 164 tons of mixed materials applied to roads.

The trustees agreed to continue meeting at 7 p.m. the second Monday of each month at the administration building.

The next regular trustees meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Feb. 8 at the administration building.
