BELOIT - The West Branch schools superintendent will transition to a teaching position when he returns from sick leave.
The school board Wednesday night approved Timothy Saxton to remain on sick leave through July 31 and acting Superintendent Micki Egli to continue as superintendent pro tempore during that time. Saxton has been on sick leave since August and Egli has been filling in for him.
Saxton has requested to be transitioned to a teaching position upon his return. The board will be considering options as they plan for the leadership change this summer.
"We wish Mr. Saxton the best for a full recovery," said Egli in a written statement. "We look forward to seeing him again in the classroom this fall and will keep our community updated on the process of the plan for leadership moving forward."

In other business, the board hired Rose Ridgway as a 3.5 hour cashier and granted the choreography supplemental to John Zamarelli for the 2020-2021 school year.
The board also granted athletic supplemental contracts for the spring season to Rick Mulinix for baseball head coach; Adam Myers, Kevin Butler and Gary Martin for varsity baseball assistants; Scott Loudon for baseball junior varsity coach; Mike Craven, Christ Tucker and Shawn Alazaus for baseball volunteers; Jennifer Woods for softball head coach; Larry Griffith for softball varsity assistant; Elaine Bonar for boys tennis head coach; Merrellyn Banks for boys tennis assistant (pending sufficient participation); Mike Falasca for girls track head coach; Cheryl Ficco and Lea Bock for girls track assistants; Tom Preisse for boys track head coach; Dave Ruggles and Tabitha Tayala for boys track assistants; and Sam Martucci for boys soccer head coach.
Also at the meeting, Egli reported the district will receive a second round of funding of nearly $1.4 million for coronavirus-related costs as well as a $9,679 safety grant through the Ohio Attorney General's Office.
