West Branch BOE selects 2021 leadership

BELOIT — The West Branch school board Wednesday night selected leadership for 2021.

The board elected elected Aaron Hawk as president. Courtney Stryffeler, the president for the past year, declined to remain in the position, saying after the challenging 2020 dominated by the Covid-19 pandemic she felt each board member should take a turn as president.

The board then elected Mikki Kanagy as vice president.

Also at the reorganizational meeting, the board appointed board members to the following committees: Stryffeler as legislative liaison; Bryan Hobbins as student achievement liaison; Hawk and Hobbins for Athletic; Kanagy and Rice for Mahoning County Career and Technical Center; Kanagy and Hobbins for Technology; Stryffeler and Hawk for Building and Grounds; Stryffeler and Rice for Calendar; Kanagy and Hawk for Safety; Rice and Stryffeler for Policy; and Kanagy for Free and Reduced Lunch Program hearing officer.

Additionally, the board approved an agreement with Salem City Schools for substitute bus drivers on an as needed basis for the 2020-2021 school year effective Jan. 8.

The board also scheduled meetings for 6:30 p.m., with work sessions at 5:30 p.m., typically the fourth Thursday of each month in the high school auditorium.

The next regular board meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Jan. 27 in the high school auditorium, with a work session at 5:30 p.m. The meeting will also be livestreamed on the district’s Facebook page.
