South Range board OKs staff pact extension

By Kevin Howell 2 min read

CANFIELD -- The South Range school board this week approved a one-year continuation of its contract with the classified union.

The board approved the contract with the South Range Classified Employees Association effective July 1, 2021 through June 30, 2022 at the same terms as the current one. Negotiations for a new three-year contract will begin in the fall.

The board last month approved the same agreement with the teachers union. Schools Superintendent Bethany Carlson said at that time considering the pandemic and the uncertainty it brings, the best decision is to hold steady until the following year.

In other business, the board approved three-year administrative contracts to Steve Matos, elementary principal and grants coordinator, and Shari Lewis, director of instruction and student services, effective Aug. 1, 2021 through July 32, 2014.

The board also granted a one-year full-time limited teaching contract to Keith Drewnoski to lead a unit for special needs students who are currently being transported to other districts; approved Alannah Pelini as a remote French Tutor, not to exceed 4 hours a week, for the remainder of the school year; accepted the resignations of Susan Baker as bus aide and Jessica Crouse as instructional aide; and hired Ed Schaefer Jr. for snow-plowing services this winter.

Additionally, the board granted supplemental coaching contracts to Bill Beaver for high school head girls track, Mark Bush for high school head boys track, David Rach for high school boys track assistant, Danielle Buzzacco for high school girls track assistant, Joe Brooks for high school boys track assistant, Gianna Marinucci Rohan for softball assistant and Ryan Miller for baseball assistant.

The board also approved as unpaid volunteer coaches Don Feren for softball, Don Dechellis for baseball and Deon Miller for baseball.

The next regular board meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. March 15 in the K-12 campus auditorium.
