EL woman gets 30 days in jail for nude photo extortion
LISBON — An East Liverpool woman who had attempted to extort money from a man in November to keep her from going to the police over some nude photos was sentenced to 30 days in jail.
Katlyn M. Tice, 28, Sherwood Avenue, East Liverpool, agreed to plead no contest to the charge of theft by deception, a first-degree misdemeanor, when she appeared before County Municipal Court Judge Katelyn Dickey.
Dickey fined her $500 and ordered Tice to pay $150 in restitution to Jonathon Shaffer within 45 days. Tice was ordered to self-report to the county jail for her 30-day sentence starting on April 5. She was also ordered to perform 40 hours of community service.
According to court records, Shaffer paid Tice to see nude photos of her through social media. Then she asked him to send her some nude pictures of himself, which he sent.
After receiving them, Tice claimed she was an underage girl and if he did not send her money, she would go to the police and have him charged for sharing those nude photos with her.
Shaffer sent her $150. Then she requested even more money. She threatened that if he did not pay more, she would call the police and he would lose his children and be listed as a sex offender.
Shaffer instead called the sheriff’s office himself, which investigated the matter and determined Tice was older than 18 and was using the situation to extort money from him.
Tice has been ordered to have no contact with Shaffer and was ordered to pay the restitution to the municipal court probation office, so the money can forwarded to him. She further was ordered to pay the restitution before she begins making payments on her fines and costs.
