State school superintendent joins presentation at Columbiana High

COLUMBIANA--Students and staff welcomed Ohio Superintendent of Public Instruction Paolo DeMaria Monday afternoon.
Columbiana Superintendent Donald J. Mook and instructor Tricia Missos joined Columbiana council members in the high school auditorium where students gave a presentation about the Columbiana Corridor.
Students presented several features of the corridor project to DeMaria, including outlets that will not be placed on booths, a waterfall, fire tables and a chalkboard wall.
Students also wanted to add some new ideas that included an interactive menu board for local restaurants, a retractable roof and an aquarium.
Students said that the success of the corridor would be measured through survey and engagement. Students look forward to gauging how much tourism the corridor brings to Columbiana.
Lace Willard, city manager, said the students have shown a great deal of citizenry, engagement and community.
The Columbiana Corridor can now be geo tagged. Geo tagging is a form of establishing a location point that will allow visitors to tag the corridor in social media activity or arrange for delivery of food. Students mentioned having a food runner in Columbiana.
Students included in presenting the project included Ava Bryant, John Ervin, Shawni Firmstone, Jessica Himes, Zhenya Motry, Collin Schick, Cameon Sloan, Daniel Vivo, Daniel Wilczak, Breanna Yerke and Tyler Andersen.
"If there can be something at a school that makes you want to go to school, makes you want to engage with learnings, make you want to interact with teachers and other students, that's a great thing," said DeMaria.
