Churches team up for Bible school at Sebo Stadium

SALEM -- Five area churches are teaming up to present the Mega Sports Camp Vacation Bible School at Sebo Stadium from 4 to 7 p.m. Aug. 8, with school-age children invited to join up.

There will be a free meal and kids can show up that night or pre-register at one of the churches: Salem United Methodist, Salem First Presbyterian, Emmanuel Lutheran, Holy Trinity Lutheran and St. Paul.

Kids can also sign up at the Brightside Project, which is holding its first Food for Kids event from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at its new location at the corner of Pershing and Lundy, or sign up at the Kiwanis Antique & Craft Show and Sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Centennial Park.

There's no cost, just a free will offering to raise money for the Brightside Project.

This year's VBS follows a sports theme, with area coaches expected to attend and a tug-of-war activity to close it out.

Kids will learn teamwork skills, hear the Gospel message, grow in confidence, make new friends, try new sports and feel loved and encouraged at Mega Sports Camp, according to a press release for the event.

The press release explained how kids and adults admire sports legends who dominate their games, but "we tend to forget that sometimes those players face hard decisions and struggle themselves. At Mega Sports Camp, you will see how Jesus is the most legendary of all. He wants us on his team."

The Mega verse for the camp comes from 2 Timothy 4:7, which states "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful."
