GOSHEN TOWNSHIP -- Trustees have tentatively scheduled a community event to introduce safety service forces to the public for Oct. 9
Trustees will use the township's NOPEC Community Energy Grant to host a safety day, introducing the community to the police and fire departments at the administration building. No time has been announced yet.
In other business, trustees hired Zachary Hodgson as a part-time police officer. He is currently a part-time deputy with the Mahoning County Sheriff's Office.
Also at the meeting, Lt. John Calko reported the police department is obtaining quotes for video redaction software which is being required to redact videos and conversations before documents can be released. There will be a significant cost to this new software, but it is required to have, he said.
Trustee Shawn Mesler reported the Mahoning County commissioners will be at the Larry Wallace property in Damascus July 21 to review the possible vacating of an alley and then at the Administration Building to hold a public discussion on the proposed vacation.
John Biery of the Goshen Center Ruritans thanked all police officers for their help at the Bunker Hill tractor pulls and personal gratitude to Officer Domenico Marchionda for his "devotion to assisting the pedestrians and being very personable and approachable at the pulls."
The Damascus Volunteer Fire Department's "Nite at the Races" is scheduled for Oct. 9 at the WB Bingo building on U.S. Route 62.
Trustees will hold a work session at 2 p.m. July 28 at the administration building to discuss American Rescue Plan (ARP) funds and how the township can use them, as well as employee benefits for 2022.
The next regular trustees meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Aug. 9 at the administration building.
