Apple Butter Days continue today

EAST PALESTINE -- The East Palestine Historical Society began holding their annual Apple Butter Days Friday with a request for volunteers to stir the mixture of apple cider, spices and sugar into a thick sauce.

Apple Butter Days will open to the public from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. today at 555 Bacon Ave. Apple butter will be sold for $5 a pint. There will also be sugar free apple butter available.

Food trucks including Babcia's Lunchbox, Yo Mamma's Kitchen and 2 Meats and a Side will also be set up at Apple Butter Days. Several Civil War living history displays will be available with individuals dressed for the time period.

Each batch of apple butter takes about eight hours to turn into a paste and contains seven different apple varieties. Varieties include Jonagold, McIntosh, Jonathan, Melrose and Golden Delicious.

Proceeds from the apple butter fund necessary maintenance for the historical society's log cabin. It was estimated the historical society sold around 200 jars in 2019.

The historical society is also encouraging community members to subscribe to a membership, which is $7 per person or $10 per family.
