Mother accused in infant’s death appears in court

LISBON — Rebecca D. Young, the 24-year-old Lisbon area woman accused in the death of her infant in the summer of 2020, appeared for a pretrial hearing in Common Pleas Court on Monday.

With her defense attorney Bruce Williams agreeing to have Young sign a waiver of time, the trial was scheduled for Nov. 1, with a status conference scheduled for Oct. 24.

Young is charged with involuntary manslaughter, a first-degree felony; endangering children and two counts of tampering with evidence, each a third-degree felony; as well as gross abuse of a corpse, a fifth-degree felony.

The County Sheriff’s Office had opened an investigation after receiving a call late on July 24, 2020 from Boardman Police, which led them to find Young was allegedly covering up that her baby born at her Lusk Lock Road home had died.

The infant was believed to have been about a day old when it died. Deputies were led to believe no one knew Young was pregnant with the child.

Starting at $2.99/week.
