LISBON -- The tragedy in East Palestine is prompting some area schools to band together for a 10 Days of Giving project to help others starting April 17 and ending on April 28.
Ryan O'Donnell, Columbiana County Educational Service Center Family Liaison, who's stationed at the Leetonia K-12 Campus, and Columbiana County ESC Career Counselor John Biastro, who also works at the Leetonia campus, told county commissioners about the upcoming program.
"We are encouraging all Columbiana County school districts to participate in this project," Biastro said.
Participating schools include Leetonia, South Range and Crestview so far. Schools will vie to collect the most donated items and the school with the most will receive recognition from the county commissioners.
The schools will collect non-perishable food items, bottled water, juice drinks, hygiene products, clothes, hats, gloves and school supplies to be donated to the Brightside Project in Salem and the Way Station in Columbiana, two non-profits which have been trying to help people in East Palestine.
Both O'Donnell and Biastro said the donations will help not just East Palestine residents but serve all of Columbiana County.
