LISBON -- The Columbiana County Board of Developmental Disabilities (CCBDD) decided it was just important to be seen as it is heard as the board voted to rescind the board's policy of telecommuting and replace it with a newly-drafted remote work policy during its April meeting on Wednesday.
The telecommuting policy was passed and implemented in 202o during the COVID outbreak and shutdown, but superintendent Bill Devon said it's time for a get back to the old normal. Service and support administrators by the very definition of their job description are required to see clients fact-to-face.
"Now that the pandemic is over, we want people back in workshops, back in client's homes, back to meeting people face-to-face because that's what we do," Devon said. "Service and support administrators are direct service people that means we have to meet people face-to-face. We want to get back doing the things we always used to do, face-to-face, one-on-one. The remote policy gets us back to meeting people. That is what SSA's are supposed to do and that's what we are going to do."
The board also approved the several sponsorships. The board passed a request to sponsor employees Erin Anthony and Adrienne Gallo for Leadership Columbiana County -a non-profit organization that provides intensive classroom and hands-on experience to build leadership capabilities. The board approved to co-sponsor the FCA All Abilities Camp on June 16 and 17 at a cost of $2,500. The sponsorship allows all CCBDD clients over 5 years of age to attend the camp for free. Approval to sponsor the Northeast Ohio 12th annual Family Advocate Conference at a cost of $3,000 was also passed.
In personnel news, the board approved the hire of a substitute instructor at $140 per day for the remainder of the 2022-23 school year and contracted Diana Montero for interpreter services for Early Intervention at $30 per hour up to 30 hours per month.
In business matters, the board approved $294,661.65 in bills to be paid; agreed to have the bus lot chipped and sealed at a cost of $9,500; and set summer business hours at 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., effective June 1.
The board also announced that graduation for five students from the Robert Bycrft school will be held May 25 at 1:30 p.m and congratulated the clients for berating the staff during the annual client/staff basketball game held March 30 at David Anderson High School.
