Dulci-More: Folk & Traditional Musicians will host Wendy Songe (2018 National Mountain Dulcimer Champion) at 7 p.m. April 10 in the Meeting Room of the Dale Shaffer Research Library of the Salem Historical Society, 239 S. Lundy Ave., Salem. Parking is available in the municipal lot across Lundy. The building is handicapped accessible. Admission is $10 with an additional $5 covering all children in a family with a responsible adult.
Songe, endorsing artist for Folkcraft Instruments, is a highly sought after instructor and performer, and a popular sight at music festivals and community events across the USA. She is the 2018 National Mountain Dulcimer Champion, 2012 Texas State Mountain Dulcimer Champion and 2012 Southern Regional Mountain Dulcimer Champion. In October 2018, she was awarded the SDC Branson, MO "Dream Big, Do Good Community Action Hero" award, and was named "Tulsa People" by Tulsa People Magazine, February 2019, for her accomplishments in music and her numerous contributions to the community through her music outreach programs for veterans, seniors, disadvantaged children and people with disabilities.
When she isn't traveling with her music, Songe keeps busy teaching private music lessons and managing her passion projects, "The Sisterhood of Song Women's Retreat," C.E.O., and "Mobile Outreach Music Missions," founder.
Songe's eclectic musical style and diverse genres encompass the piano, guitar, ukulele, Bodhran, voice, and mountain dulcimer, and this is frequently featured in magazines, podcasts, radio, and television broadcasts.
Songe has released two solo albums to date, 2015 "Test Drive" and 2016 "DRIVEN." Her discography also includes collaborations with The Vintage Wildflowers - 2014 "In Full Bloom," Bing Futch - 2013 "The RV Project," and Dr. Jonathan Dowell- 2012 "Celtic Christmas Showdown" CD.
Songe was a featured performer and workshop presenter at Dulci-More Festival 22 in May of 2016. She now lives in Oktaha, Oklahoma.
Since its founding in January of 1993, Dulci-More has met twice a month to enjoy playing and singing. The group occasionally performs for festivals, fairs, schools, churches, clubs, nursing homes and others. The group also presented its Dulci-More Festival for 25 years featuring national, international, regional and local musicians. The Dulci-More Spring Concert Series will continue with Four Shillings Short from Ireland and California on Saturday, April 29 at 2 p.m. and Dave Haas from West Virginia on Saturday, May 20 at 7 p.m.
No advance tickets or reservations are needed for the concert series. Free refreshments from Dulci-More members are available during the intermission. Everyone is welcome to attend.
