BELOIT--The West Branch Board of Education reappointed Superintendent Micki Egli during its March meeting.
Egli was officially appointed to the position Aug. 1, 2021, prior to which Egli had been the active superintendent for a year. The reappointment will see Egli in the position for the next five years and is effective from Aug. 1, 2023-July 31, 2028.
Other personnel items approved include: the termination of employment of custodian Joseph Anderson effective March 7, within the 60-day probationary period; the hiring of Samantha Robinson as a long-term substitute teacher for the remainder of the 2022-2023 school year; the hiring of substitutes Katie Robinson and Jane Roper; the resignation of athletic supplementals by girls middle school track coach Carl Davanzo, and junior varsity baseball coach Andy Todor; athletic supplementals for junior varsity softball coaches Maddie Libb and Cori Hutchison, junior varsity baseball coach Adam Myers, girls middle school track coach Calum Watt, and middle school track assistants Zachary Dean and Tim Lucik; a non-athletic supplemental for musical choreographer Tessa Wells; and unpaid medical leaves for Wendy Wagner and Stephanie Derry.
Also discussed was a request for a property tax abatement for a proposed construction in Smith Township that falls within the district's borders. While the board has statutory authority to permit such an abatement when proposed by the appropriate municipality, it had not yet received a proposal from the township. Despite this the board wanted to express its willingness to support an abatement, and authorized Egli, Board President Bryan Hobbins, and Treasurer Adam Fisher to negotiate the abatement with the company and the township, and to take all necessary steps on behalf of the board to finalize the abatement following successful negotiation.
Several administrative items and contracts were also approved including: a contract with the Local Government Services Section of the Ohio Auditor of State's Office for the preparation of financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles for fiscal year 2023, not to exceed $7,500; a $2,845 agreement with Sedgewick for the Workers Compensation and Unemployment Group Rating Program for the 2024 fiscal year; a shared services agreement with the Educational Services Center of Eastern Ohio for the 2023-2024 school year; an $8,400 Career Counseling Services contract with the Educational Service Center; memorandums of understanding with Youngstown State University, Stark State College and Walsh University for the College Credit Plus program for the 2023-2024 school year; an agreement with Maxim Healthcare Staffing Services to provide services to students on an as needed basis for the 2022-2023 school year effective Feb. 22; a $14,797.51 contract with Frontline Technologies Group LLC for fiscal year 2024; a contract with Julien & Grube for services verifying the district's compliance with agreed upon principles in connection with reimbursable services from the Ohio Department of Medicaid for fiscal years 2024, and 2025 in the amount of $2,200 each year, and the retention of the Bricker and Eckler, LLP Law Firm as independent legal counsel in educational matters on an as-needed basis for the 2022-2023 school year.
The board of education will meet next at 6 p.m. April 20.
