ALLIANCE - The following students were acknowledged at the University of Mount Union's Senior Recognition and Honors Convocation of 2023.
Adrienne Canestraro, of Minerva, was awarded The James E. Thoma Sport Business Award. The award was established in 2014 in honor of Mount Union sport business program visionary Dr. James E. Thoma through the generous giving of sport business alumni. This prize celebrates and recognizes students who have demonstrated potential to be leaders, visionaries, and day-to-day practitioners and personify excellence in the business of sports.
Alexandra Cox, of Alliance, was awarded The Eric A. and Mary W. Eckler English Prize. This prize is awarded to a senior majoring in English language and literature whose scholarship in this area has been most outstanding.
Matthew Eversdyke, of Alliance, was awarded The Sophomore Choral Award. This prise is awarded to a sophomore student in recognition of dedication, enthusiasm, and devotion to the choral program.
Jeffery Joseph, of Beloit, was awarded The Clark and Sandra Albrich Archer Prize in Multi-Platform Software Development. This prize was established to recognize the accomplishments of an outstanding senior majoring in multi-platform software development. The selection is based on grade point average in the major, overall grade point average, number of courses taken in the major for honors credit, and service to the community.
Allyson Kirchgessner, of Salem, was awarded The Richard L. and Connie VanderMeulen Doyle Prize. This prize is awarded to a student who shows great promise in the field of history.
Fatima Magana Meza, of Alliance, was awarded The Alfred Ringwald Prize. This prize is bestowed upon the student who, in the judgment of the faculty, stands highest in academic achievement in the Department of Literature and Communication Arts.
Tori Richards, of Sebring, was awarded The Richard L. and Connie VanderMeulen Doyle Prize. This prize is awarded to a student who shows great promise in the field of history.
Marissa Scott, of Winona, was awarded The Amelia Alexander Dillow Prize; The Mary Evelyn Cook Weber Scholarship. This prize is awarded to the most outstanding student majoring in English and education. This scholarship is awarded in honor of the wife of the seventh president of the University.
Alyssa Tohm, of Columbiana, was awarded The E. J. Wulf Student Teacher Prize. This prize was created by Mrs. Ellen June (McDonald '47) Wulf to provide funds for student teacher related expenses. This prize is awarded to the three seniors, with the highest grade point averages, who are to be licensed in early childhood education.
Aiden Trummer, of Alliance, was awarded The American Bible Society Award. The American Bible Society Award is given to that student who stands highest scholastically in Biblical studies.
Micah Walker, of Beloit, was awarded The Donna J. Michalek, Ph.D. Memorial Engineering Prize. This prize was established in memory of Donna J. Michalek, Ph.D., founding member and chair of the School of Engineering following an untimely death in 2012. This prize is awarded annually to a graduating student who, in the judgment of the department faculty, best exemplifies the characteristics of an engineer.
Each year, the convocation honors graduating seniors and underclass students who have excelled academically, displayed excellent leadership skills and shown dedication to the University and community through outstanding community service initiatives.
