United BOE approves coaching contracts

HANOVERTON -- The United school board met Wednesday and approved several personnel items, including six supplemental coaching contracts.

The board approved the contract of Corey Leek (girls varsity basketball), Jason Thompson (boys varsity basketball), Ken Beaumariage (boys varsity wrestling), Tyler Leitza (varsity girls wrestling), Gary Herold (varsity bowling) and Sarah Jones (varsity cheering). The contract for Rebecca Zeisler as majorette/flag advisor was approved. Zach Jewell was approved as a volunteer soccer coach.

Contracts for certified staff members Ethan Blatch and Shea Ruiz for the 2023-24 school year were approved. The board also approved to employ Matalie Motts as Spanish teacher, Lyne Mercer as elementary school secretary, Keith Martig as a certified substitute in history as well as Toni Burchfield as a substitute bus driver. The supplemental resignation of Katie Bibro, effective at the end of the school year, was approved. The board also passed approval to employ technology summer help assistants on an as needed basis at a rate of $10.10 per hour. Those approved for the positions were Chris Cannon, Jesse Tolley and Patrick Bryan.

In other personnel matters, the board approved to award certified time to nine staff members who worked days beyond the regular 2023-24 school year for a total of 154 days.

In business matters, the board agreed to enter into a one-year contract with Appetegy to supply website support and mobile app developments and alerts and set all athletic event prices, and approved the April financial statements.

Admission to junior high sports will be $5 for students or adults. The high school athletic admission price was set at $7 for adults and $5 for students.

Approval of the 2023 United Local graduating class - pending completion of all local and state requirements - was passed. In addition, the board approved the Five Year Forecast for May submission to the Ohio Department of Education for school years 2022 through 2027.

The acceptance of donations totaling $1,775 were approved.

Second-grade field trip chaperones Mariah Herring and Amnada Wlson were approved as were Costa Rica chaperones John Karaazin, Heather Mercer and Christine Firth.
