BELOIT -- The West Branch Board of Education approved a new meeting policy this week.
Under the newly implemented policy any person or organization that wants to address the board at meetings will now need to notify Superintendent Micki Egli of their intent to address the board and of the subject they intend to speak about five days prior to the meeting.
Egli said that the policy is being implemented to ensure that anyone who wanted to speak at a given meeting could do so in a timely and organized fashion.
The board also discussed the ongoing process of installing a new master water meter at the high school, which was mandated after a previously unknown and unmetered water line supplying water to the high school sports complex was discovered last year.
Egli said that an exploratory dig had been conducted at the desired location for the meter, which had found storm drain and water main lines running beneath the sidewalk at the location. As a result, a new location would need to be selected and a second exploratory dig would be required before further action can be taken.
Egli also announced that an exploratory dig had been completed for the district's proposed installation of a well near the ball field. If constructed the well would be used to supply water for the watering of the high school's athletic field rather than drawing on village water.
Egli said further updates will be made available to the public as they develop.
The honored student of the month for May is graduating senior Lleyton Uphold. The board also recognized the district's eighth-grade Career Based Intervention Program students for their recent victory at the state Knowledge Bowl in McGuffey, Ohio, with a winning score of 435 points, over 100 points higher than the second-place score of 315.
