Perry Twp. approves joint paving project with Salem
PERRY TOWNSHIP–The board of trustees approved several financial matters in its meeting Monday.
Trustees approved a trio of financial resolutions including one to pay the township’s portion of the expense for a joint paving project with the city of Salem. The joint project is to pave 17th street, which is partially located in both the township and the city. The township’s share of the paving cost is approximately $12,301.
Resolutions to increase the Police Fund’s Social Security Line item by $300 and the Zoning Fund’s other expenses line item by $900, and a resolution approving an alternative method of apportionment of Local Government Fund monies to be distributed in 2024, were also approved.
During his report Trustee Tony Ierepoli said that the 400 tons of salt the township had requested as part of the Ohio Department of Transportation Salt Contract had been awarded to the township, and that the township has also gotten 75 tons of grindings from the 17th street paving project.
Trustees also heard from township resident Charles Clark regarding the construction of a housing complex on a piece of land within city limits across the street from his property on state Route 344. Clark said that the complex was going to have 13 buildings, with each building containing three apartments, and the developers had dug up his yard and recently installed an asphalt driveway in April, and that despite assurances from a city employee they would be repaired, they had not been. Clark also said that when work at the property had begun it had flooded the yards of several properties in the area.
Clark ultimately said that he has had many issues with the city and wanted trustees to be aware of the issues township residents could experience if property in the township continued to be annexed into the city.
Trustees thanked Clark for his comments, with trustee Jim Armeni noting trustees are actively working to address the matter, and felt they were taking the appropriate steps.
The board of trustees will meet next at 4 p.m. July 10.
