The Salem Township Trustees approved the renewal of the township's insurance during its meeting Tuesday.
Trustees passed a resolution approving renewal of the township's property and general liability insurance with the Ohio Township Association Risk Management Authority, which has a premium of $11,619.
Trustees also received an update on the recently discussed issues with the air conditioning unit in Constable Dan Valentine's cruiser not functioning properly. In the board's last meeting on July 11, trustees authorized Valentine to take the cruiser to Steve's Auto repair in Leetonia to have the unit recharged. However, Valentine told trustees he had not done so. Valentine explained that he and Road Foreman Jason Entrikin had been able to sufficiently recharge the unit themselves with cans of freon to last through the remainder of the high summer temperatures.
During his report Entrikin told trustees that the department had finished chip-and-seal work for the summer and provided an update on the previously discussed repairs to the township's loader bucket. Entrikin said the department would be dropping the loader off for repairs Thursday, and that due to the severity of the wear on the unit repairs would likely require fabrication to secure any new pins and bushings.
Entrikin also told trustees that gravel had been dug out at the township's building on Cunningham Road and used by a resident to repair their leaning mailbox.
"I noticed the mailbox was falling over the other day, and today I went around with my mower and mowed the weeds off on Cunningham and thought 'what is this mess?' You can literally see where he shoveled the gravel," said Entrikin.
Trustee Bill Heston suggested the matter be turned over to Valentine to address.
The board of trustees will meet next 7 p.m. Aug. 8.
