LISBON - It is back to school in just a few weeks for many area children, and Community Action Agency of Columbiana County (CAACC)'s Health, Behavioral Health and Dental Centers once again are offering to help some area parents by providing some free school supplies.
In celebration of National Health Center Week, which is Aug. 6 through 12, CAACC's Health, Behavioral Health and Dental Centers are planning to host a Back-To-School Drive-Through. The event is set from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Aug. 10 in the upper circle area near the CAACC's Administrative Building, 7880 Lincole Place.
"We're celebrating National Health Center Week, with this year's theme being 'The Roadmap to a Stronger America,' and also building awareness of our health, behavioral health and dental centers in Columbiana County," said Jenna Wonner, CAACC COO.
"We are all about helping parents get a jump on school supply lists, but we're also hoping to create more awareness of our six centers in Columbiana County and the services we provide," she noted.
In its fifth year, the event is being held in the early evening to allow working parents to take part.
"This is always a popular event, and with it being a drive-through, it's convenient for parents and their children to take part," said Jody Wisbith, marketing specialist for CAACC's Health, Behavioral Health and Dental Centers. "We're extremely happy to provide some free school supplies and help parents and children get off to a good start for the school year."
There are a limited number of drawstring bags available, so bags will be given out on first-come, first-served basis, it was noted.
Some other CAACC agencies will participate in handing out back-to-school items, including Head Start. CAACC's Mobility Management and CARTS and Administration offices also are helping by donating supplies to put inside the drawstring bags being distributed at the event.
National Health Center Week is the creation of the National Association of Community Health Centers, and the week has been celebrated for more than 30 years.
The CAA Health, Behavioral Health and Dental Centers also will celebrate its patients and employees during National Health Center Week with a Patient Appreciation Day and an Employee Appreciation Day.
This year CAACC received the donation of drawstring bags from Buckeye Health Plan.
