Salem Historical Society’s Home and Garden Tour – A huge success

SALEM -- One of the highlights for the summer of 2023 was the highly successful Salem Historical Society Home & Garden Tour.

The event was held Friday, July 7 and Saturday, July 8. Fortunately the weather was perfect for the hundreds of guests who came out to view seven of Salem, Ohio's beautiful historic homes and gardens.

Robert Viencek, chairman for the event, stated, "This was a monumental task. First, I am grateful to the homeowners for permitting us to host their extraordinary homes. Second, I was fortunate to work with a core group of organizers for the tour. Third, the many volunteers. We had over two hundred individuals who gave of their time and talents. This included docents and plein air artists -- this was a first for us. Each home had artists who painted the exterior of the homes while visitors to the houses stopped and observed artists at work. And finally, gratitude is expressed to the many guests who came out to support the event."

Ginger Grilli, a member of the planning committee, said, "I want to thank the gracious homeowners who welcomed our guests, the dedicated volunteers who plannned and worked at the tour, the artists who demonstrated their talent, and all those who purchased tickets. Special thanks to those who joined me in donating to the tour: Salem Giant Eagle, Salem Regional Medical and Robert Viencek."

Nancy Ciotti, another board member, explained: "I want to thank the homeowners and volunteers who worked non-stop to make this tour a great success. Also thanks to Bob Viencek and Ginger Grilli for all the endless hours they gave to the tour."

Ruth Newman, a member of the board of directors for The Salem Historical Society and a member of the core team, said, "This has been a real team effort. We are so fotunate to have all of these beautiful historical homes in the City of Salem. Thanks to all who attended."
